Milk of Magnesia

Has anyone tried Milk of Magnesia to help with constipation?  I was backed up for a couple of days and started to feel so gross.  I took it and feel so much better now!  I looked on line and saw that it is safe for pregnancy - but has anyone else heard that it is safe too?

 Thanks!

Re: Milk of Magnesia

  • My doc gave me a list of pregnancy approved medications. Milk of magnesia is on the list, along with dulcolax and magnesium citrate for severe constipation. Colace, Metamucil and Citrucel are listed for mild constipation. I have taken colace, but it's just really not working. I will be trying out milk of mag...hoping it makes me feel better too!

  • I picked up a pamphlet at the pharmacy last night and this is what it says:

"The best way to ease consitpation is to make sure your meals include high fiber foods, such as bran cereal.  If necessary, you can use a bulk-forming agent such as psyllium (Metamucil). Other products such as docusate sodium (Colace), magnesium hydroxide (Milk of Magnesia), glycerin or mineral oil have been shown to be safe.
