gymboree/my gym?!

Hi ladies! Sorry I've been MIA lately. I've been swamped at work.

I know that places like Gymboree offer paid classes where you go with other families and an instructor leads the activities, etc. I apologize in advance if this is a stupid question, but are places like that also open on the weekends for families just to use the facility however they want (i.e., not participating in a structured class at a set time)? If so, is the entrance fee expensive? Do they get ridiculously packed on the weekends? Can you recommend a place like that in Miami (anywhere in the Gables/South Miami/Grove or even Falls area)?

We don't have time to participate in those classes during the week and I'm weary of signing up and paying for any set course on the weekends since I know the odds are we would end up having to miss some of the classes because of birthday parties, family obligations, etc. But I would love to be able to go to one of those places on our own time so that the baby can play with all the stuff they have there, even if we are not enrolled in a scheduled class.

Re: gymboree/my gym?!

  • hmm..  I dont know about My Gym but gymboree only had Open Gym time slots for people who were enrolled in classes.  They do have this thing where you can keep an inactive membership for I believe $15 a month but I'm not sure if that gives you access to the open gym times or it just keeps you from having to pay enrollment fees again when you decide to come back.  Its worth a call I guess =)

  • Gymboree only has scheduled classes for paid members. The $15 "freeze" option is if you won't be able to attend the classes for a while but you don't want your membership to cancel, and you can only freeze it for 3 mths in one year. Normally it starts off at $75 a month and it gets cheaper the longer your membership is. I think it was $75 for the first 3 mths and then you get a 5% discount for the next 3 mths and so on until you reach a year of attending and then its like $62.
  • Thanks, guys.

I guess what I'm trying to find is like a Chuck E. Cheese or Monkey Joe's type of place, but geared more towards infants/almost toddlers rather than older kids. Like an indoor playground for babies. Does that even exist?!

  • Hi Jen:

Have you tried Cool-De Sac in Sunset Place?  They have a section for toddlers and they don't allow bigger kids in there (even though they sometimes sneak in). They have a ball pit, a small slide, and a bunch of toys. We took Evan once and he enjoyed it! Oh, also there is a station for little girls where they can play dress up...seems cute even though Emma may be a bit small for that still. ;)

  • jen, you can pay $5-$10 (i forgot the exact amount) if you're not a member, but that's every time you go to the open gym :)   they have designated times for people to go.  if you're a gymboree member, you go for free.  if you're not, you have to pay every time you use their facilities (i worked there, remember?  lol)
