2nd time mamas with muscle seperation

If you had ab seperation the first time, is there something you needed to do in following pregnancies to "protect" your bellies? I had some ab seperation that got much better over time, but will never be normal. I'm worried about what will happen when everything gets stretched out again.

Re: 2nd time mamas with muscle seperation

  • This is me, only mine didn't have a chance to fully heal. I was taking Pilates and doing some core work and hoping to continue 'til about 24 weeks. I've spoken with my OB and I will be getting a pregnancy support belt to give my abs some extra help (a genuine one made for me, not like the Madela ones) around 16 weeks- 3 hours one 1/2 hour off. Once this baby is out I will also be getting another support band like the ones they give liposuction patients to help push everything back together while they heal again (but I also heard great things about the Belly Bandit).

  • Ugh I hadn't even really thought about this.  Something else to ask my doctor about.
