What were your SAT scores?

In general, if you don't want to post the actual numbers.

Someone below posted that their score was "barely 1100 when they were scaled to 1600", like that was a bad thing.

Mine were a combined 1170 on the 1600 scale, and that was good enough to put me in the top 5% of everyone in the country. I didn't think that was too shabby.

I know that the current SAT is very different from the older one, and not necessarily in a good way. I think that grade inflation has hit that, too.

Re: What were your SAT scores?

  • oh my!  I don't remember.  it was either 1040 or  1140 or 1400... ??? I remember a 1 and a 4 and it was 4 digits.  it wasn't a priority to me though b/c most of the schools I applied to requested the ACT ... I got a 32   (out of 36, I think?.... that was SOOOO long ago!).

  • I never took the SAT. My ACT score was 29 I believe.

  • Most everyone. I knew took the ACT. I scored a 21 or 22 and felt dumb even though it's fairly average. But I graduated in the top 5% of my class so I guess it wasn't that awful.

  • I didn't take the SAT either. All the schools I applied to wanted the ACT (they were all in the Midwest). I think I had a 29 or 30 out of 36 on it.

  • Somewhere in the 1000 neighborhood.  It has been a long time since I thought about the SAT. :-)
  • 1540 on the SAT, 34 on the ACT.  Being Asian, the response from my parents was, "You couldn't get a 1600/36?"  They made me take both again.
  • Halo, I had to go look at mine, too. I happened to be sitting near my filing cabinet and have my old school crap stuffed in there.

My ACTs were a 27 composite, which was a 93rd percentile.

  • I only took the ACT and I have no idea!  I don't even remember the score on my FE exam, and that was only 5 years ago. AllI know is that I passed, and that's all that I cared about!  LOL!
  • I took the SAT and ACT.  Don't remember SAT at ALL.  I think I got a 29 on the ACT though.
  • I don't remember for sure, but I want to say that it was in the 1200ish range. I do remember that I scored exceptionally high on all of the language stuff and low/average on the math  (math has always been my weak subject.)

I didn't take the ACT. In my school the SAT was standard and very few people took the ACT.

awww. that makes me sad!   I would have been heartbroken if my parents responded in that way...  I was lucky, my brothers had screwed up so much, they were pleased with anything I finished. lol.

  • 1320 on the 1600 scale.

No one I knew took the ACT.

I couldn't even tell you where mine are????   maybe in a closet or the attic at my parent's house???

  • Crap. Under 1000. I'm going with the "I'm not a good tester" defense.

  • Wow, you guys are all very smart! Those are some good act scores, we too didn't take the SAT only ACT and I kind of took it the first time on a whim and ended up with an average score of around 22...I didn't have very much guidance from my counselor on applying to schools, what they were looking for etc...I still got in tho.

Wow, you guys are all very smart!

I went to a fancy-pants college prep school and my 1200 was pretty low compared to most of my classmates.

  • I didn't take the SAT.  My ACT score was 24.  I was happy with it and didn't retake it.  :)

  • 720 verbal, 710 math. So 1430.

  • 1200ish. . . better on math than verbal.  And I only got into one school I applied to.  Luckily, it ended up being the right choice.

  • We took the SAT's here and I can't remember my score!  I know I scored high in language/reading stuff and not as well in Math.  I'll have to look when I get home because now I am curious!

  • I want to say like 1050 or 1100
  • I got a 1400.

In 1995 they "recentered" the scores so that it was a little easier to get a higher score, although the change impacted you more if you got a lower score.  So a pre-1995 1500 and a post-1995 1500 were similar, but a pre-1995 1000 was higher than a post-1995 1000.

  • This is kind of funny - 1450 on the SAT, I think.

But...that was with a 790 verbal I think (It might have been 780), which made my math 660.  I was far better at the verbal portion and I took the math portion w/out my calculator because I had forgotten it.

OK, now that makes more sense to me.

I took them in 1985-86. I wondered how I could have been so high on the percentage scale then, and so many people who took them more recently are leaving my scores in the dust. LOL

  • Oh, don't be sad.  It's funny!  Asian parents are so stereotypical, it's hilarious.   They weren't being mean... just Asian.

Lol. So true. At least you have a good attitude about it.

  • Rarely anyone takes the SAT here, but I did take it.  I don't remember what I got, but 1310 is in my head.  Or maybe it was 1120.  Who knows.

I got a 31 on the ACT the first time and a 33 the second time.

  • 1270 in 1988.  It was a very good score then, maybe top 5-10%
  • 1420.  Stronger on the verbal part than the math, though.

  • That was me, and I haven't been on the computer since!  Sorry!  My around 1100 was in 1999, so after the revaluing of scores and was the lowest of any of my friends by a long-shot!  I did not get into any of the schools I wanted with that score, so I spent a year at a lesser school then transferred once I showed great grades in college.

  • I got 1080 on the SAT when I was in 7th grade.  I was asked to take it because I was part of a study done by Northwestern University involving kids who were on the gifted track.  When we moved to our new house, I was putting away a box of letters, report cards, etc. that belonged to my DH.  I found a letter that showed my DH was part of the same study.  He is off the charts genius and scored waaaaay better than I did.

    I got a 32 on the ACT.

  • 1350.  I did much better on verbal 7 something on verbal and 6 something on math.
  • I don't remember exactly--I want to say 1100 or something...it was 1991 or 92.  My ACT was 25 or 26--A couple of my girlfriends scored higher (we were all in Honors classes) but no one got over a 30 to my knowledge...andy by & large my 25/26 was considered good.  Either there are a bunch of smarty pants on here or it was harder back in 1991--LOL!  I did score perfect on one section of the GRE & high enough to get in Mensa (not that I have)...so I must have gotten smarter at my mediocre state university--or I just didn't got out partying the night before like I did w/ my HS tests :oP

  • I was not in college prep classes-- I was in business classes, so I did not have to take them since I went right to work after high school. I eventually went on to get my Bachelor's at night while in my late 20s/early 30s. I still was not required to take them. They just looked at my high school grades.
