Pregnant after IF

Are you sleeping on your left side?

I was reading something that said starting at 20 weeks you should lay on your left side while you sleep. I'm typically a stomach and back sleeper so I've been trying to train myself now. Problem is even with a pillow wedged in my back I manage to flip to my back in my sleep. What are you all doing to stay on your side?

Re: Are you sleeping on your left side?

  • I have a mountain of pillows plus a snoogle and I still always manage to end up on my back.  I try to stay as propped up as possible though, so I'm not flat on my back.

  • I try to stay off my back in general (sort of--not worried about it yet), but I'm not worried about staying off my right side.
  • I sleep with three king sized down pillows two in the shape of a V with the point at the top of my head and one between my knees and inevitably I wake up on my back or on my stomach (with a pillow between me and the bed). I've given up worrying about it. The babies seem fine and I'm still glad to be sleeping....
  • In the begining it was hard since I am a stomach sleeper but I wanted to train myself early on to break the habit. I use lots of pillows and flip flop all night between my left and right side. My shoudler starts to hurt really bad if I don't rotate. Now being 29 weeks I can't lay on my back for more than a few minutes since all of the pressure being put on it is too painful.

  • Once you get to a certain point, being on your back will be miserable and you'll feel like you are going to pass out.

I sleep on either side...I flip back and forth all night.

  • I flip back and forth all night and it hurts to lay on my back for more than a couple minutes.  It's getting impossible to sleep at all right now.
  • I still flip flop between both sides.  I just can't stay in one position all night long.  I use a snoogle and two other pillows to prop me up at night since I get palpitations regardless of the position I am in.  I have woken up with numb arms or leg after sleeping on my right.  Basically my doctor said your body will wake you before anything goes wrong.

  • i rotate between left side and right side.  i have a body pillow that i wrap my legs around, so it's easy for me to stay on my side.  the body pillow is the only thing that enables me to get some sleep at night!

This-I try to prop up my right side so I'm at least leaning towards my left, so I'm not flat on it.  So hard!

  • i'm fortunate that i've never been a back sleeper. In the beginning getting off of my stomach was a problem though.

Now I rotate between my left and right sides... and I spoke with my OB about it yesterday. She saiid as long as I'm not on my back for any particular length of time, if I lay on my back for a little while, it's not the end of the world.

And she has no problems with my sleeping on my right.

  • I flip flop all night, but sometimes end up on my back but favoring one side or the other.

This.  I also find that using a body pillow helps you to mentally adjust.  I seem to be most likely to end up on my back in the morning when I'm half-aware, so then I can force myself to move after a few minutes...  I'm a back sleeper normally, but forcing myself to hold onto the pillow when falling asleep initially helps.

Now if only I could figure out what I did with my freaking body pillow!!  I'm about to bite the bullet and buy a new one because the pillow between the knees thing is just not cutting it...
