Post-mastitis... She's sleeping but do I need to pump?

I got mastitis a couple of weeks ago and was not sure of the cause, it came on pretty quickly.  Got it taken care of and am back to normal now.

My 2 month old started sleeping a 7 hour stretch (up from 5.5) a couple of nights ago.  She definitely makes up for it during the day with 2-2.5 hour feedings but I'm wondering whether it's okay for me to also sleep through that time or if I need to wake up to pump. I'm hoping not the latter because it'd be nice to sleep, but I don't want it to cause mastitis or supply issues!!

Any suggestions or info would be appreciated!

  • Your body will adjust to LO's new schedule after 3-4 days or so. Until then, if you wake up engorged and she's still sleeping, you can hand express or pump just enough to ease the discomfort until it's time to feed her.
