Baby monitors

Do you use a baby monitor for your child?

We always had a baby monitor in DD's room.  When I was preg with #2, we transitioned DD into a big girl bed, and I bought a video monitor to keep an eye on her - I knew we'd use it for the new baby anyway.

We did put the regular (sound) monitor back in my 3.5 year old's room.  She can get in and out of her room on her own (like to pee, or in the morning, etc), but there have been times I hear her coughing all night or starting to cry so we will go in her room to check on her. (I don't leave the door open because it almost looks into our room, so it wouldn't make sense to).

Re: Baby monitors

  • Yep. Still use the video monitor. We joke about how she's going to hate that thing in high school.

    We still use ours, too.

I plan to tell DD it's a smoke detector. :)

LOL at both of these!  Yep, we still use our video monitor too.

  • We don't have a monitor in DS's room anymore. I can hear him at night though and he can get in and out of his bed if he needs something. We also don't close his door all the way so he can get out of his room and we can hear him better.

  • We don't use a monitor for DD1 anymore; we moved it from her big girl room into the nursery once we started having DD2 sleep in her crib. DD1 just comes into our room when she wakes up during the night. Even when we still had the monitor in her room, I sometimes wouldn't even hear her wake up until I heard her bedroom door open and close. (We keep all our bedroom doors shut at night to keep the cats out.) We have a gate at the top of the stairs so she can't wander downstairs on her own while we're still in bed, but I doubt she'd even want to do that anyway.

  • We still use the sound monitor in both girls rooms (4 and 2 1/2) and have no plans to stop.  At night, if DH and I are upstairs on the computer or watching TV, we can't hear the girls and they sleep with doors closed so I don't always hear them when I'm in the bedroom even though its just across the hall.  My older DD can get up on her own but as others have said, I like to hear her at night.
