So DH and I took DD out for the 1st time tonight since her surgery to DQ. There was a long, long line. We were behind a pregnant woman and a little girl who was about 6 y.o. They had other people with them who were sitting in the car waiting. The little girl's mom was driving (she called her mom - that's how I knew), a sleezy looking guy in the back seat next to a baby in a car seat.
I missed what the adults said to each other (the ones in the car to the one standing there), but the little girl said "are you guys done drinking and driving?" The people behind me snickered. I tried to give DH a look, but he thought I was giving the look to him (pay attention DH). Then the people in the car must have gestured to the Wine and Spirits store across the street and the pregnant lady in line said "we should have gone there first, the liquor store is closed now." Then the little girl said "all of them?" No response. The little girl said "are all the liqour store you all want to go to closed?" No response from anyone.
I was just dumbfounded. I mean I know kids will say all kinds of things and they can be taken out of context, but clearly this little girl was familiar with the term drinking and driving and what a liquor store was. I just felt so bad for her and pissed that it seemed as though the pregnant woman was still possibly drinking. And that the loser mom who couldn't be bothered to help her 6 y.o. into the car was also lucky enough to have another baby (in the back seat). ARGH!!!! It just makes me so mad.
Of course, when I told DH the conversation once we were in the car (that he seemed to miss) he said "I told you". Referring to our ongoing "joke" that if we quite our jobs and got addicted to crack that I would get (and stay) KU in no time. Lovely.
