Pregnant after 35

CVS Results

I received my CVS results today and I have to say I did a lot of crying.  Our of the 20 cells they tested 17 came back with an extra 18 chromosome - potential Trisomy 18.  I have what's called a Mosaic test result.  I have an amniocentesis scheduled for September 13 but I am going to see if they can move that up.  Wow....I didn't expect this.  I need to know for sure what is happening with this pregnancy.....right now I am kind of numb.  There is always a chance that the extra 18 chromosomes are only in the placenta and not in the fetus but time will tell.  But, even if they are only in the placenta there still could be a risk for low birth weight or premature delivery.  And Mosiac test results are very rare - only 1-2% come back like this.

Any thoughts?  Anyone else have similar experience???

Re: CVS Results

  • no i dont but i just wanted to offer you a digital hug. I m very sorry you guys are going through this, you are in my thoughts
  • I'm sorry.  I don't have any experience with this - my first CVS is coming up.  I really hope that the issue is just with the placenta and not the fetus.

  • I am so sorry you got such scary and unusual results back, I wish I had some positive experience to share with you but I never had a CVS. My thoughts and prayers are with you and baby.

  • I did an amnio for 1st pg with problems. I know the stress of waiting.  I'm sorry.
  • Thanks for the note....how did your results turn out from the amnio?

     Thanks............

  • I'm late to respond.  That must be so stressful.  I'm sorry you're having to go through this.  Someone posted about this on one of the trimester  boards recently.  Apparently, her sister has mosaic trisonomy (I can't remember if it was 18 or 21), and she's perfectly healthy.  I hope your amnio goes well--best of luck!
  • The baby in my siggy has mosiac chromosomes.  I went through hell worrying about him while I was pregnant.  The thing with mosiacism is that you really can't pinpoint exactly how bad (or good) it will be.  I searched out multiple specialists, and not one could give me a definative answer,  I realized that it was out of my hands, and I just decided that as long as the baby would fight and stick with me, that I would fight for him.

I don't want to scare you, but the reality is that you will be hard pressed to find any real answers at this stage in the game.  The best you can do is wait and pray.  Don't give up because there is hope, just look in my siggy.

Feel free to pm me or email (fauxshelley at hotmail dot com) if you want to talk.  I have been there and know how hard it is.  Best of luck to you and LO.
