Judge my NB CD stash! — The Bump
Cloth Diapering

Judge my NB CD stash!

I was browsing Ebay and Nicki's Diapers, about to buy MORE CD, when I thought... maybe I should ask the experts if I have enough for my NB stash?  Here goes ~

12 GMD orange PF

6 handmade PF

4 Thirsties XS covers

1 Bummis NB cover

2 Kissaluvs 0

11 BG XS AIO

8 BG OS (although I assumed these wouldn't fit until later on)

14 BG inserts

What do you think?  The only thing I was thinking of buying more of was more covers and maybe a couple more Kissaluvs?  Think I should just wait?  Lay it on me!

Re: Judge my NB CD stash!

  • I think you're fine diaper wise.  I'd wait there and see what you like.  I always figure 24 - 36 diapers in the beginning and you've got a great start.

I don't remember if XS thirsties fit right away - we used prowraps until DS's cord fell off, so I'm not sure if they would have or not.  For that reason, I might be tempted to get one other nb sized cover.

Other than that, do you have other accessories - wet bag, pail liner, cloth wipes if you're going to use them?  Looks like a great nb stash, though! :)

Hmm, I should look into a couple smaller sized covers maybe?  I compared my NB Bummi to the Thirsties XS and it is indeed smaller.  Can you use one cover for several diaper changes?

As far as other accessories, I have 2 wet bags (one large hanging, one small for diaper bag... but it is SUPER small so I was about to order a medium one), 2 pail liners, but no cloth wipes although I was starting to think about them because it makes sense to just throw them all together in the wash!

    Thanks!

  • No problem.  I think we got away with just 3 covers that were smaller than our thirsties.  It didn't take too long for DS to grow into the thirsties, although they are a bit bigger!  (they consequently last forever - DS is two, and he just really grew out of the Medium ones a few months ago - we still scrape by in them on occasion - granted he's a bit small for his age).

Anyhow - you can use covers more than once as long as they aren't poopy (as in poop gets onto the cover - which does happen more often with pfs than with fitteds, I will say!  Especially w/ nb poo and as you're figuring out the best fold for your LO) or as long as they aren't getting whiffy.  We generally will switch between two covers during the day, letting one air out while the other is in use.  We wash when they're dirty or we'll toss one or two into each wash cycle just to make sure they are clean.

cloth wipes are fabulous!  I was skeptical at first, but DH even has said how much he loves them compared to disposables.  YOu can make your own (mine are just flannel and birdseye cotton - great - the flannel side is nice and soft and the birdseye gives you a bit more scrub effect when you need it) or use cheap washcloths (I have some of those too - I will say, they don't stay soft quite as long as the flannel ones).  They are super easy to make, or you can find them on Etsy.  A friend of mine who showed me the CD ropes really liked the ones at softandscrubby on Etsy (I may have spelled that wrong).

And I'd definitely recommend a med wetbag.  I have two for my diaper bag, and I often use both of them before they go through the wash.  (although you can definitely start out with a med and small!)

  • Thank you so much for your input.  Good to know about the covers!  And I think I will make/have my mom make some cloth wipes.  She made the PF, just "copied" the pattern of the GMD ;)  It would be super easy to make wipes.

I think for now I'll just order the med wet bag, and see which diapers we like when he gets here!
