What supplements are you taking, if any?
Are you trying to maintain a certain caloric intake (if so how many cals are you aiming for) or are you just eating when you're hungry?
I will admit that I wasn't the best about taking my prenatal and extra folic acid in the 1st tri, they made me gag every time I took them so I just didn't. Now that I can finally eat again without gagging (even if it's just a little at a time) I'm really focusing on putting the best I can in me. Just curious what others are doing.
TIA!
Re: talk to me about your nutrition
I eat when I am hungry, stop when I'm full, and try to make the best choices I can. I have gained 20 pounds, so I think I am doing something right! Your body knows what it needs.
I try and remember my prenatals, but it doesn't always happen these days.
AM: prenatal + DHA, Folic Acid (5mg d/t MTHFR) and B6 100mg
PM: Magnesium 500 and Vitamin D 400iu
I try to stay around 1800-2000 calories/day. It's a very balanced diet. I watch every morsel I put in my mouth. It may be extreme, but I'm determined to not eat crap. I also eat organic and no preservatives ESPECIALLY meats, dairy, eggs, fruits and veggies. I'm also overweight. At my last appointment, I had gained 12 pounds at 22 weeks, and I wasn't happy about it (since at 18 weeks, it was only 7).
I'm terrified of what the scale is going to say on Wednesday at my 26 week appointment.
"Smudge's Story - How to Grow a Dandelion" will return soon!

"If dandelions were hard to grow, they would be most welcome on any lawn."
I don't know if I'm the best model... I really just eat when I am hungry. That usually ends up being some sort of snack or mini meal every 2-3 hours. If I happen to eat a larger meal then I usually don't get hungry for a little bit longer.
I try to eat fruit for two of my snacks. I drink milk with my cereal in the morning and then have a glass in the afternoon. I also make sure I have a veggie with lunch and then more veggies with dinner. I haven't been counting my calories though. I think I have gained about 9 pounds so far. At first I was worried that I was gaining weight too fast, but my OB said it was okay so I'm just going with it. I don't eat a lot of junk food at all so I know I'm not packing in a ton of empty calories.
TEA - I take a prenatal with DHA every night too
Unexplained Infertility
After two Clomid cycles, three injectable IUI cycles, two IVFs, two miscarriages, and one lap surgery, IVF #2 has brought us our little boy!
TTC #2
After months of being postponed or cancelled, FET #1.3 (Natural FET) brought us twin girls!
I eat when I'm hungry and stop when I'm full. I throw up daily though, so really, I don't count lol. I've maintained my weight since day 1, haven't gained/lost a pound.
I wouldn't be so worried about exact caloric intake when you are pregnant, you are going to drive yourself nuts.
As for a prenatal, I take a Target prenatal every night.
Lots of fresh fruits and veggies! Like PP said, I eat when I am hungry and stop when I am full. It doesn't take much either. I fill up real quick, but am starving again an hour or so later.
I take a PNV daily as well as a calcium and magnesium supplement. I found a link between magnesium deficiency and migraines (and charlie horses), which I was getting a lot of. Once I started taking the magnesium, I get far less migraines and no charlie horses. I take extra calcium to make sure that I am getting the right amount on a daily basis.
Keep in mine that I am only 6w and this could all go to hell in the blink or an eye!
I'm eating when I'm hungry and trying to focus on protein, calcium and iron. I was up 9 lbs at my last appt and my OB was happy with it.
I try to do as much organic as possible. I take a calcium pill and fish oil in the AM and fish oil, calcium, and prenatal at night.

Living After Losing
I take a prescription pre natal vitamin. The morning pill has iron, beta carotene, vitC and vit E. The evening pill has 5mg of folic acid plus calcium, vitB12 and vitD3. It's much easier to digest when iron and calcium are separated.
I don't keep track of what I eat... and I have to admit I still eat a lot of junk food. I don't have cravings but I prefer to eat carbs, especially pasta. And I love ice cream.
I eat when I'm hungry and don't ever really overeat. Once I'm full, I stop. I do take my prenatal vitamins plus DHA every morning. I still have trouble eating meat and most vegetables, so I am trying to fill that void with beans and lentils, and lots of fruit. I do eat a lot of dairy every day too. I have been eating a lot of carbs because it's what I can stomach, but I try to keep it to whole or multigrain if I can. Then there's the occasional handful of chips
I'm about 18 weeks and I've gained 8 lbs.
Diagnosed PCOS & MFI-Success with IUI
I take my prenatal +DHA, folic acid, fish oil, and calcium magnesium and zinc supplement. I added 1000 mg of fish oil and the calcium, magnesium and zinc at the suggestion of that specialists group I visited. There is some evidence that those can help prevent premature labor.
Now that I have GD, I've been super careful about my diet (I was pretty good before; now I am golden!). However, I am now struggling to put on the recommended weight - I am fighting for every pound! Apparently all of the carbs I was eating previously were seriously helping with my weight gain!
I take a PNV (Rx one the RE insisted upon), my baby aspirin and 2 Folguards a day (MTHFR). I also usually take a 500mg Calcium/magnesium supplement b/c it helps avoid leg cramps and general hormone side effects (in my experience.)
I don't count calories but I do count protein. I shoot for 100g a day which several sources (Bradley classes, the Dr. Luke Multiples book) cite as being important to good birth weights. I did it with my son but am more anal about it this time since PTL is a risk.
I try to avoid (not terribly successfully last week) complete junk so that the calories I'm getting are nutritious. Even when I do eat junk I also eat lots of fresh fruits and veggies.
Our meat and dairy is as organic as we can find (finding it tough to find organic beef, but at least get "natural.")
I eat several small meals a day. The only full "meal" I have is dinner. Everything else is a snack (yogurt, fruit, etc) throughout the school day. Seems to keep me full longer and from eating junk when I'm famished.
I'm just taking off-the-shelf prenatal vitamins once a day. No other supplements.
I haven't been watching my calories, I just eat when I'm hungry and whatever I'm craving. Unfortunately, I'm a sucker for salty snacks so I've definitely been eating way too many potato chips. Carbs also make me happy. Fortunately, my biggest cravings have been for fruit so I've been eating a ton of fruit. I have been enjoying the local farmer's markets this summer for peaches, plums, melons and apples. I've also had a major red meat aversion so I've been getting most of my protein from chicken and seafood.
I have put on more weight than I had hoped though. I was 121 lbs pre-pregnancy and last week I weighed 137, so I'm up 16 pounds at 21 weeks. And 14 pounds of it I have gained since about week 15. eeek. My ob hasn't reprimanded me yet, but I'm sure she'll say something at my next appointment.
