Girl name help...

Going through the big book o' baby names, my DH landed on Madison.  I really do like the name and it sounds great with our chosen mn of Cecilia.  So our little girl MIGHT be

Madison Cecilia.

Of course, she will be called Mady, Maddie, Madi or whatever spelling she decides as she grows older.

My question is this.  We are not 100% decided, but I could use a few more ideas as to a fn that can be shortened to a nn.  Keep in mind, we are set on Cecilia for the mn as it the name of my dear great grandmother (as well as my MIL's mn).

Re: Girl name help...

  • I have Cecilia on my long list, and I have it paired with a few names as the middle name. Here's what I have:

    Anette Cecilia

    Lynette Cecilia

    Violet Cecilia

Or would you be open to using Cecilia as the first name? I think it's great as a middle name (and since you asked, nn could be Cece or Celia)

Here's what I have paired with it as a first name:

    Cecilia Evangeline

    Cecilia Evelyn

    Cecilia Lynette

    Cecilia Rose

    Cecilia Violet

Also, I don't have Gwyneth on my list, but I think Gwyneth Cecilia sounds llike an absolute perfect combination!

  • IMO, Madeline is a much prettier name than Madison and would allow for the same NN.

Other names that go with Cecilia (and are similar in style to Madison)

    Addison Cecilia (Addie)

    Allison Cecilia (Allie)

    Emmeline Cecilia (Em, Emma, Emmy)

    Emery Cecilia (Em, Emma, Emmy)

Elizabeth Cecilia (Liz, Betsy, Ellie, Beth, Liza, Libby)

    Margaret Cecilia (Molly, Maggie, Margie)

    HTH!

  • I know how popular Madison/Maddie is, but I have an adorable 1 year old niece with the name, so I can't dislike it. :)

Anyway, I just wanted to say that I love the combination of Madison Cecilia. It flows well, and has a classic name to offset the popular/trendy first name.

Some other ideas of girl names that can be shortened:

    Katelyn/Caitlin (Kate/Cate)
    Lillian (Lily)
    Abigail (Abby)
    Jillian (Jill)
    Gwyneth (Gwen)
    Julia or Juliana (Jules/Julie)
    Savannah (Sav)
    Eliana (Ellie)
    Vivienne (Viv/Vivi)

  • I love Cecilia so much, and I hate Madison so much, that it saddens me to see the two together...sorry.  I could get on board with Madeline Cecilia though.  OR maybe Cecilia in the FN spot! Wink
