Pregnant after IF

Movement question

My OB said movement should start to be consistent around 26 weeks. The past 4 days, we've had a new pattern of movement and s/he's been extremely active. Today. A whole lot of nothing. I'm about to send DH to the store to get OJ and try kick counts.

I'm pretending that I'm not worried, but honestly this isn't like him. I've been getting the crap kicked out of me for days, and I'm really missing it today.

when did your doctors have you start kick counts? Would you be concerned if you were me?

Re: Movement question

  • my OB starts them at 28 weeks, so by that standard you're a little early.

i think it's probably okay, but you could always check in with the on-call doctor to be on the safe side and see if they want you to come in.

hope you get some reassuring kicks soon!

  • This has happened a couple times now for me. The most recent was last week actually. I was sitting in the recliner one night and all of a sudden my belly just stared shaking, and the best way I could describe how it felt was like she had a seizure. Scared the sh!t outta me. The next day or so she was really quiet and her movements weren't what and when they usually were then suddenly she was moving back at her normal strength and times. My OB said what I felt can be totally normal because you just have no clue what they are doing in there. I got a little peek at her on u/s this week and she was head down now instead of breech, so I'm sure I was feeling her move into the new position. My OB actually never said anything at the last visit about kick counts and I was 29 wks at the time, even though I already know about it and do it. If you are still concerned later or even tomorrow I would call, it can't hurt to ask.

  • For my 28 week appointment my OB was on vacation, his partner had me start doing kick counts.

My next appointment with my real OB at 30 weeks, I mentioned I was doing kick counts - he said, please don't go crazy if you don't get to the "right" amount of kicks (guess he knows me)... he said it's pretty unscientific...

Honestly, after that, we never really did kick counts.  As long as I felt movement after OJ or cold water, or lots of sugar, I was happy.

  • I think the reason they don't have you start kick counts until almost 30 weeks is there's a lot of room in there still at 26ish.  He probably moved more central or something and you're just not feeling it from the outside.  I think I'd try the juice trick and then call the OB if you can't feel anything.

I don't mess around with not feeling movement generally, but 26 seems like it would still be in that "maybe" stage.

  • My doctor just said as long as I feel something every day it's fine. He does not recommend kick counting, and I am at 30.5 weeks.

I recently went through a whole day with nothing, then I got up in the middle of the night to a bit of a party in there, and realized, she has her days and nights mixed up. Let's hope that corrects itself :).

  • my lo always has 2-3 active days and then 2-3 resting days.  i have read that at 28 weeks do kick counts at times when baby is most active as they do start to have sleeping patterns
