NBR: Destructive dogs

My dogs are really sweet most of the time but I think they're not getting enough time out and play time.  DH and I woke up this morning and in the kitchen under their cage (it doesn't have a bottom) they ripped up the floor and broke it into little pieces.  UGH, I know they need more time out and time to play and get out their energy but we have been really busy outside the house so they stay locked in their crate a lot more than normal and now they're venting their frustration on my floor.  Anyone have any ideas to keep the damage from getting worse?

Re: NBR: Destructive dogs

  • All that comes to my mind is to make it a point to get them exercise and mental stimulation when you are home. If you go to the pets board, those ladies will have some more ideas than I do at the moment.
  • We fostered a 2 yr old pit bull for 7 months, he was very neglected and had never been inside. We just got the big crates for when we weren't here or at night. Rawhide bones, the big rubber toys you can hide treats are great for providing stimulation. When they do go outside maybe get tennis balls and frisbees and just run them to death for even a short amount of time. It worked great with our foster dog and he went on to a great family and they never have problems with him. Hope things go better for you.

  • dog food/treats in pop bottles. life saver. they destroy and are occupied, you're out a 10 cent deposit (if you have that in your state). I have a very energetic little 11 month old pit bull who won't even wear out after a 4 mile walk :)
