Worst name story I've ever heard!

I'm not sure if I buy this, but a girl at work relayed it to me, and it's too horrendous not to share, even if just for laughs.

Her husband was talking with the new girl at work, and her daughter's name came up. She said it was Le-a. He (politely) said, "oh that's different, do you pronounce it Leah or Leia?"

She responded "No, the dash ain't silent (phrasing repeated as it was told to me, charming I know)."

Her child's name is Ledasha. LeDASHa. As in she says "dash" out loud!!!! The ramifications of this.... it's just beyond words. Like I said, I'm not totally sure if I believe it, but it would be pretty awful/hilarious if it's true.

Yeah, we've heard the La-a urban legend...but the thought is appreciated. Now if you can actually get proof and post it, that would be something!

I work in a pediatric emergency room and we have what we call a "name book" with the patient's name label b/c there are so many people out there that really DO NOT take into consideration that this chld will grow up and need a career/job or the teasing during school years!  I've seen the Le-a among so many other ridiculous names!  To name a few:

Chlomedia (clamidia/chlamydia as in the STD)

J-M (pronounced J to the M)

Boss

King

Sir

and my all time fav...Pleasure...she's already set in her career choice!

I've never heard the La-a thing before. I'd be inclined to believe it with names like the above listed. Chellebug - those are terrible! Poor kids.

If you have actually met a La-a, please post some identifying information, such as city and approximate date of birth, so that we can send it along to Snopes.com to be verified.

If you are just passing on a story about a name your sister's friend's aunt who is a nurse saw at her hospital, you should probably educate yourself about the racist and classist history of these urban legends before you go around repeating them.

This makes no sense at all.  If she was saying the name, she would say it how it was pronounced, not how it was spelled.
