Today a new nurse (well, one who hasn't been on rounds when I've needed a nurse) came to take my BP.
"So are these your first?"
"Nope. We have 3 more at home. Thankfully my mom is helping us out!"
"Oh wow. How old are they?"
"3, 2, and 1, roughly. Give or take half a year"
(awkward laugh) "Phew. You must have one seductive husband!"
"Er. Well we wanted our 3 children close in age. Our youngest was a little sooner than we expected. And than these two were a complete surprise. But what can you do?" (my turn to awkwardly laugh).
"Geez! I wonder how your kids feel about having to share all the attention. I bet they hate it!"
"Um. No. They love each other and playing together. And they don't know any different."
"Ok. Well good luck. You'll need it. And help!"
(Exit my new least favorite nurse).
I sat there like :O for a good while. I'm not quite sure how I responded so calmly.
If that nurse comes back, I'm not being as nice. Of course I know we have them VERY close in age. But really...as a nurse why say that?!
Re: Warning: May contain a vent
Wow, she was ridiculous. Even if those thoughts run through people's minds, they need to keep it to themselves.
I would have loved to have my children close in age but I was so young when I had my first, I was still in my teens four years later when I had my second. My third was a surprise and then we planned #4 and now #5 and #6 were beyond surprises (failed vasectomy).
You will do just fine and that's wonderful that you have your mom to help you out. These early years are going to fly by and before you know it they will all be out of diapers and you will have them going into school one after the other!
