Visiting/flying into Memphis

We have a wedding in mid November-- DH is in the wedding party, but due to a very long story he may not be able to make the wedding.

Therefore I am looking for a direct flight from Washington DC (National Reagan Airport) to Memphis for me and my LO, who at that time will be 9 months. I have been looking on farecast.com for the past couple of months and from what I can tell, my only option is Delta. And the airfare really doesn't seem to go below $400. Is this typical? I want to go to the wedding, but I am not sure I want to go that much...

Memphis is notoriously expensive for flights.  It's ridiculous.  We do have Airtran, which always goes through Atlanta, as our only Lo-Fare carrier.  Nashville, Jackson MS, and Little Rock all have Southwest but all are 3 hour drives to Memphis.

Thanks for the info. I have never flown into Memphis so I had no idea. (I used to live in the midwest and we would always drive in.  Now I know why!)

this isn't going to help you in November, most likely, but Southwest Airlines just bought AirTran, so that may force some of these other airlines that have a chokehold on us in Memphis to lower their rates!
