January 2011 Moms

kind of concerned ..

i've been feeling LO move since about 14 weeks, and it's grown daily where i feel her more and more. last weekend we went to vegas and the baby was moving up a storm, DH felt her kick for the very first time. now that we are back home, i'm growing a tad concerned, but not sure if i should be or not. LO is not moving nearly as much or atleast i'm not feeling her move as much. she used to kick like crazy when i would lay down in bed, last night i didn't feel her kick at all. then usually when i sit at my desk at work i can feel her kick me throughout the day. well here i am sitting at my desk, and nothing. i've drank a fruit smoothie, and a glass of juice this morning, so i would assume she'd have plenty of sugar to get her kicking in there. is this any cause for concern you think? or is it just too early to have constant movement maybe?

i don't want to call the doctor just yet, bc i've called twice this week for other things, and had an ordeal last week trying to get some medication and ended up talking with the nurse a dozen times at least. i don't want them to think i'm a freak for calling constantly. i'm just nervous.

Re: kind of concerned ..

  • I actually just posted a very similar question. I'm planning on calling my doctor today, so I'll let you know what I find out.

  • I've been feeling LO since 14w also, and I still have days where I won't feel her.  I'm not sure if it is a concern yet, I don't know when they consider us far enough along that not feeling baby move for long periods is cause for concern.

you're a bit further along from me and seem to maybe have the same thing. so hopefully you're right that we're not far enough along yet for there to be a huge cause for concern yet. just so nervous. so weird to feel her all the time, and then nothing. :(

  • It's very normal...my Dr said you won't feel it everyday at this point.  I took out my doppler this morning b/c I've been feeling her every night and didn't feel her last night or this morning.  She then decided to kick the doppler.

I think if she's facing my back I don't feel her nearly as much as if she's facing my belly

  • What about drinking a coke or coffee? Would that maybe wake baby up for you? Hope you feel something soon!
  • I just read that you don't start monitoring fetal movement until 28 weeks and inconsistent movement up until that point is not abnormal.
  • Most docs don't worry about consistent movement until 3rd tri... sometime between 26-30w, depending on the office.  At this point, LO still has a TON of room to move around, and it's quite possible he/she is facing your back where you can't really feel any movement.  I know it's hard, but try not to worry.  I've only been feeling LO for about a week now, and it's pretty inconsistent at that (although yesterday LO was going crazy, LOL)... I haven't felt anything at all today yet.

  • Just from my experience, I never really felt constant movement until about the late 2nd trimester. Its amazing how small the baby actually is, even if the ultrasounds make them look bigger. They only start to get bigger in the 3rd tri. Plus you have to factor in how the baby is laying in your belly. I noticed that I felt a lot more movement after the baby switched positions.

I wouldn't worry, but if you're really unsettled, call your doc. :)

  • thanks girls for all the help! makes me feel much better. i guess at this point if i dont feel her move again for another day or so i will call the doctor to see if i can just get a quick ultra sound or something. i do have a fetal doppler and her HB is good, so that's a good sign, right? :)

  • I am in the exact same boat as you girl!
I just called my Doc. last night and they said that at this point it's too early to be worried about not constant movement, but offered to squeeze me in to listen to the hb as reassurance. I think I might just take them up on that.
It's been 3 days now for me with no movement as far as I can tell and I'm a worry wart. I also have an anterior placenta which I'm currently blaming.

So GL and keep us posted!! :)

  • Baby P must have felt my concern because this morning after posting and worrying and getting ready to get to the Doc , he gave me a swift punch. It was in a different area then he usually chills in, so maybe that's why I haven't felt more movement lately...?
But that's all I needed to ease my mind for now.
Hopefully your LO comes out of hibernation for you too :) I'm sure all is good ! Let us know though!
  • OK, so just to update you on what I did, I called my doctor and they told me to essentially to a kick count. She said it is not uncommon for movement to be inconsistent at this stage. If it were at 26 weeks, they could be concerned, but at this point it's common. Also she said that a lot of times the movement is so light that unless you are really focusing on it, you won't even notice. She had me drink something cold and sweet and lay down for two hours feeling my belly. I am amazing at how many times I felt it. Had I not been really focused on it, I never would have felt it at all.

  • awww good! i'm so glad you felt her! i've been sitting here at my desk at work trying to concentrate as much as possible on her - and i HAVE felt a few tiny kicks. nothing reallll hard like before, but movement for sure, every once in awhile. that make's me feel better. maybe she's just moved into a new position. when i get home i'm going to do what you said Shpinz2011 and hopefully i'll feel her more and can relax :)  thank you for the update!!
