Infertility

love2b_mrst

Hi there,

I'm in your area and I remember you saying that you love your new RE, and that he/she is good about coding your visits and procedures in a way that is helpful to you. I was wondering if you could tell me who your RE is? (feel free to PM me if you need to) Thanks so much :)

Re: love2b_mrst

  • I'm seeing Dr. Mayer at USF.  I have heard a lot of good things about him from others too.  He just seems to take his time talking to you and explaining things, and really cares.  When I went on Monday for a sono, he did it personally and explained everything, which was great.  At my old RE I never saw my dr unless I made an appt to talk to her (and then I had to pay extra for a consult!).  Let me know if you want any more info!

  • Thank you so much. I've heard really good things about Dr. Mayer. It seems like everyone in this area mostly goes to RMG, is that where you used to go? I've heard mixed things about that place. Any doctor who could try to help me with my insurance would be a huge help to me, so Dr. Mayer is sounding better and better...
  • Yes I used to go to RMG.  It did seem like everyone went there.  But I have another friend who also didn't like it and switched to USF and Dr. Mayer and she loves him as well.  I am unexplained, and at RMG they weren't concerned with figuring out what is wrong with me.  I have very obvious issues (I basically spot heavily throughout the month) and they never did any tests to see if they could find what was causing it.  Dr. Mayer said right away that it isn't normal to have that, and we need to figure out what's causing it.  RMG just pushed me to IVF, told me I was a great candidate and had a 70% chance of it working.  So I like how Dr. Mayer is trying to find the root of the problem before telling me I should spend a small fortune on IVF!

Oh gosh, that's exactly what I'm afraid of! I'm scared I'll go to RMG and they'll push me into costly procedures, just to make money of me. I don't want to be taken advantage of. I think I will call Dr. Mayer's office and see if I can get in there. I've never been to an RE before, I'm really new to all this. All I've had done so far is my CD3 and 7dpo bloodwork last March. And MH had his SA done at RMG. We've been trying over a year.

  • update... I just made a consult appt with Dr. Mayer. The only thing is, I'm waiting for a call back from the financial lady so I can find out how much this will cost me. My insurance covers nothing that gets coded as IF-related. So I don't know if I'll even be able to afford a consult. I hope it's not hundreds of dollars because I'd really love to talk with the dr. Hopefully it works out :)
  • My consult was a $30 copay so hopefully it will be the same for you!  My insurance covers 50% of IF diagnostics and IUI's, but they did the consult at a copay price.  Actually, my sono on Monday was a $30 copay too.  Good luck, I hope you like him!
