C-section recovery questions...

How long until you had no pain at your incision site.  Overall, it does not hurt.  It just hurts when 'I cough and sneeze still.  Just curious if this is normal.

Also, I have steristrips at my incision site. When did those fall off?  They are slightly coming off in some areas, but super sticky, so I don't want to pull them.  Just curious how long they should be attached and when they would fall off.

TIA!

Re: C-section recovery questions...

  • no pain and I felt comfortable in REAL pants, a little over a month.

The incision area itself felt numb for months before I finally got some feeling.

and yes it hurt for a while after to cough, sneeze, laugh hard, etc.

C/s are a big surgery and take a long time to heal completely. Did you get a post partum band to give your belly some support? that might help a little.

I didn't have the strips so I am not sure about those...good luck!

  • Thank you for posting this. I just found out yesterday that I will most likely need a c-section bc Baby is breach.  I'm concerned about the recovery and being able to take care of both babies.  I want to be as hands on as possible, but worry that I'll be too banged up to do so.  How did you feel physically when you first came home from the hospital?

  • I felt physically fine when I came home from the hospital (no problem with stairs, etc).  The hardest thing was moving in bed.  My incision stopped hurting around a month.  I also had the steri-strips and they fell off at about 2-3 weeks.  I kinda left them until they started coming off and then just peeled them off.
  • I still get occasional pains at my incision site.  Certainly not daily, but every once in a while.

I got steri-strips when they took my staples out at 2w; they were glued on.  I started peeling them off 2 weeks after that, so right around 4 weeks.

  • I definitely took longer than 2 weeks, and still I am a little tender in the mids ection...not paid but tender. They told me to peel the steristrips off myself in the shower if they did not fall off in 2 weeks so I did that. I think it was probably not until 4 or 5 weeks after that I felt mostly normal and even then still I would feel twinges here and there if I exerted myself. Sounds like you are doing ok - I hope you feel better soon.
  • I was told to take the strips off at 2 weeks by peeling each side towards the middle.

I am 2 weeks 2 days out and my incision is mostly fine. It feels a little uncomfortable but isn't really painful.

  • you're good if it doesn't hurt much.  I was off drgs in about a week and a half.  The steristrips itched like crazy!!!  My dr told me at about 2 weeks to peel them off - and they surprisingly came off pretty easy (I did it after a shower).  Then it felt so much better down there.
