So i have been having issues with lower abdominal pain on my left side from cysts. With having a history of MC i went to the doctor on Aug 9th to get to checked out. I went to the ER because the pain was stabbing and i was worried. basically i was told i was early pregnancy and to take Tylenol when needed. I had my follow up appointment today which was just them asking how i was feeling and again doing a beta test. The Doctor today said on Aug the 9th my level was at 2000 and today it was at 98000. She said with those numbers i am most likely 5-6 weeks pregnant and not the 10 weeks that I thought i was because of my LMP. Im so confused and shocked. I got my BFP at the end of July. And i know when my period was. I have always had regular cycles of 28 days and was charting for 6 months before becoming pregnant. I am happy that things look good but worried when she said she thought i was only 5-6 weeks. How could i be a month off? I read in "What to exspect when you're exspecting" That "Normal" levels for 9-12 weeks is 25,700-288,000. She just called me back and wants to do a Ultrasound Monday to confirm. Has this happened to anyone else? I was just so excited to be so close to my 2nd trimester and now i feel semi ticked lol. I feel in my heart i am 10 weeks maybe 9 the earliest. I know my body. But at least she isnt gonna make me wait till my apointment on Sept 13th to do a Ultrasound.
Re: HCG level? The doctor says by that i am a month less than i thought. i was using LMP..
*sigh*
if the range for 9-12 weeks is 25,700-288,000 - and your levels were at 98,000 - than what is the issue? That's within the normal range?
You cannot go by Betas to date your pregnancy. The range is way WAY too broad.
Unless you were charting & know for sure the date you ovulated, you cannot tell how far along you *truly* are. Your LMP is an educated guess, yes - but plenty of people ovulate late for a variety of reasons. (even if your cycles were always "like clockwork")
IMO, betas should never be used to tell how far along someone is, especially not after the first couple of weeks. As evidenced by the "normal" given in WTEWYE, the variation is huge. I'd get the u/s just to confirm, but don't freak out.
Also, if your hcg was 2,000 on 8/8, there's no way you'd only be 5-6 weeks now.
If anyone in the medical field is trying to date your pregnancy based on hCG levels - you need to run - not walk - to another dr's office because you cannot date a pregnancy by hCG levels alone - there is way to big of a variation of normal ranges.
I wouldn't worry about it with numbers like yours.
In my bag: Nikon D90; 35mm 1.8, 90mm 2.8 macro (my fave), Lensbaby Composer with macro extensions. BFP after 13 cycles and one ectopic. Lost left tube 5/19/10.
This and, isn't 10 or so weeks about the time hCG starts to level off?
Were you seen on base? That could explain a ton right there, not that military docs are bad at what they do, they are great, but they aren't known for their bedside manner that's for sure.
This. I CANNOT believe your doctor is dating your pregnancy on the beta. Let's put it this way, my beta yesterday was 73,000 something for 7w5d. I'm monitored very closely by and RE because I had IVF. My numbers are considered perfect to them. Your numbers look great for how far along you think you are. Please don't worry this weekend. Your doctor is an idiot (sorry I had to go there).
