It's pretty boring, but it worked. First, no potatoes. None. And avoid breads and pastas like the plague except for whole grain once in awhile. Lots of protein (specifically fish and nuts), fruits and vegetables. Nothing processed... Not even orange juice. Instead of OJ, I'd have an orange. In other words, lots of whole foods. I avoided anything that came out of a package unless I could easily pronounce the ingredients and even then I tried to make sure it was organic. A typical day's worth if meals would be as follows:
Breakfast: handful of raw almonds and an orange.
Lunch: 4-6oz of blackened salmon, grilled asparagus, a banana, probiotic yogurt.
Dinner: chicken and spinach salad with spices as dressing.
Doesn't sound like a lot, and it really wasn't, but I didn't feel hungry. Sometimes I'd substitute the almonds for walnuts or peanut butter. Hummus became a favorite meal or snack. I ate a ridiculous amount of watermelon. I also ate a lot of turkey wraps on whole wheat wraps. I didn't drink either. I let myself fall off the wagon about once a week and tried to not beat myself up about it.
I also kept a log of everything I ate. I used the livestrong.com web site and iphone application to do do. I hope that helps. I'm thinking of meeting with a nutritionist because I'd like to make sure what I'm doing is okay and to get different easy meal ideas. I'm also not much of a cook, so I'm sure you could whip up more interesting things that contain whole, closer to the root ingredients, but I'm not great in the kitchen and don't have time to cook. Good luck!
