Update on my EPP IVF cycle

So, I talked with my RE last night and he realizes that the error was made.  I should have been taking the estrogen suppositories until my follies were 15mm, not once they reached 15 mm.

I love my RE and I understand that mistakes happen (I have made them at work too and I deal with people's investments so when I make a mistake, it can be costly.)  He called me again this morning after discussing my situation with another RE in the group.  They talked about the science about EPP and think I should be fine (I did get pregnant last time we did this protocol - which we did incorrectly then too and I did get two estrogen shots early in the cycle).  My follicles looked good today.  He is going to call me back after he gets my bloodwork results and we see how my estrogen levels are.

He recognizes that if this IVF cycle doesn't work that I will now be questioning if it was because of the estrogen goof up and I don't know if I will get the closure I was wanting to move on to DE.  I also told him that it is frustrating to feel like I wasted $9,500 on this cycle.  Again, if I get pregnant, then this won't matter.

I am trying to not stress about it and just wait for the call this afternoon.   If my emotions were any indicator yesterday, my estrogen levels should be up. Crying

  • I hope you get good news and this is all moot, but honestly your RE should not be let off the hook with the explanation that mistakes happen.  That is so easy for him to say since he is not the one spending 10k OOP and I am sure he would love to brush this under the rug with a "it shouldn't be a problem".  My thoughts on that are that if it shouldn't be a problem then the protocol would not work that way.  There is a reason why it is done a specific way.  I personally think he should be giving you your money back if this cycle doesn't work.  I believe that people should be held accountable and after spending that kind of money if it didn't work I would be looking at my legal recourse.  He didn't do his job correctly and that is the long and the short of it.

Sorry I am just not a puppies and rainbows person when it comes to crap like this.  I do hope it all works out and that this is a moot point.  Good Luck!

  • ((hugs)) I hope you get some good news this afternoon. How very frustrating. I'm glad that your RE at least admitted this mistake was his fault. Still, it doesn't make it any easier to deal with this.

  • I never caught your post from last night until this morning. I've been waiting for an update from you! I can't believe what you have been through the past 24 hrs! Hopefully, the mix up will have no impact on your cycle. Are all of your follicles growing at the same rate?

I'm hoping this cycle does work out!!!

  • I really hope it works for you even with the mix up! If not, I would think your RE should give you some kind of refund or discount on another cycle. Hopefully, you won't need to go there though because this cycle is a success!!

  • I am happy to hear that your follicles are looking good, and I hope that your E2 level is better today.  I am so sorry for all the stress that you have had to go through in the past day.  Fingers crossed that this mistake is just a little blip in the road of great things to come.  It sounds like you still have a very good chance of having a successful cycle - wishing you all the best!

If this cycle doesn't work, I will definitely be asking for some type of recourse.  At this point I am trying to stay in the moment.

  • Oh, wow... I am so sorry. I was hoping that it wasn't an error but rather a modification in plans to adjust for something to make it work better for you. That stinks. I'll be crossing my fingers for you that you get some good news. Good luck, sweetie!
