Bouncy Seats & Bumbo Seats

We did not get either for our shower and Im just trying to figure out what I should buy.  What did your twins like/use the most?  One of each, two of each, etc.  Thanks for your input!

Re: Bouncy Seats & Bumbo Seats

  • None of mine cared for the bouncy seats.  DS1 never had a Bumbo and sat unassisted at 5.5 months.  The twins have Bumbo seats that I mainly use for feeding (much smaller than a full sized high chair).  I used the Bumbo's for maybe a few minutes everyday before they learned to sit.  The twins learned to sit unassisted when they were around 7m.  I'm not sure if it took them longer because they had the help of the Bumbo to rely on, it could just be that they're different babies so of course they'll develop differently than their big brother.  Personally I would skip the bouncy seats (luckily I was able to buy them used from our twins club sale and sell them for what I paid for, at least I didn't lose money on them).
  • we have one bouncy and 2 bumbos....both like the bouncey but we rotated them between that and the swing...the bumbos we use for giving them their cereal

  • We used 2 bouncy seats like CRAZY for 4 months.  They never really liked the Bumbos.

After 2 rounds of IVF & 2 rounds of FET, we were blessed with identical twin girls!

  • We have a 3 story house and our living room is on the 1st floor and the bonus room is on the 3rd floor, so we have duplicates of everything (swing, bouncy seat, Boppy, playmat, and Bumbo) for each floor.  We will just switch them from one to the other (or let them be in the one they like more).  If we find we don't need so much, we will just put stuff in storage.  We had 1/2 of the items and were dontated/gifted the others so it's not like we had to spend a fortune on items.
  • Ours lived in the bouncy seats and loved them.  They hated the bumbo seats.

  • We currently could not survive without the bouncy seats (the Bright Start Comfort and Harmony).  They actually sleep better in these than the pack and play.  Definitely two.

I didn't get much use out of these with DD - maybe 3 months of use.  We did use them initially when starting solids, so two would be ideal but not necessary.  But it'd be a better craigslist buy I think.

  • We would NOT have survived without our bouncy seats.  This is how I fed them by myself for MONTHS!!  We didn't even buy high chairs until 6 mos.  We used the bright starts ones (I got them cheap at Ross for like $19).  Nothing fancy.  They didn't care for them much just hanging out or sitting, but we used them to eat.  Once they started sitting upright in them and moving too much that they were about to tip we bought high chairs.

For Bumbo's we had two of them (One I bought used on CL and one given to us used by my cousin) and we rarely used one, let alone both.  Mostly just one and not too much.  The girls were okay in them but I didn't care too much for them personally.  My girls didn't sit up unassisted until 8 mos.

  • We never got around to buying Bumbos, and really haven't missed having one. We have used our bouncy seats (Fisher Price Infant to Toddler rocker) like crazy. The girls still like to sit in them and play with the toy bar. We keep one in the bathroom permanently to have a place to put a baby if we need to shower or use the bathroom.

  • The boys are okay in the bumbo.  I got 1, as a handy me down from a friend, but I have no desire to buy a 2nd one.

On the other hand, my bouncy seats are the best thing I've purchased!  They eat and play in them.  At times they will even have a short cat nap in them.  They love them and it's make like so much easier to have them in there.

  • If you decide to buy them I wouldn't buy them new because like the pp have said, there is no guarantee they will like them.  I got each of my bouncers (3) off CL for $10 each and the bumbos w/trays for $20 each off CL.  I even bought 2 swings off CL for around $40 each.

That's more than 50% off what they retail.

    Just a suggestion.

  • My boys aren't old enough for bumbos yet, but they LOVE their bouncy seats.  They pretty much hang out (read sleep) in it all day!

I shudder to think about what my life would be like without these bouncy seats.

  • Wow our bouncy seats have been my second set of arms. I feed the babies by myself in their seats as well. And Logan has reflux so he slept in there a lot. Haven't tried the bumbos yet but people say they will love them. I can see them liking it since they do like sitting up and looking around. Once they can hold their heads up we'll try the bumbos.
  • I think we are the odds ones out, but our girls LOVE their bumbos.  We now use them to feed them everyday.  Before they were on solids we still used them everyday, even took with us to grandparents house and our lake house.  They loved being able to sit up and watch everyone, and they traveled a lot easier than anything else.  We used the bouncy some, but not near as much.  Again, it looks like we are definitely the minority though Big Smile
  • I like using the bouncy seats right now as just an additional place to put down a baby comfortably.  Have a set of them in the kitchen so they can hang out with me in the kitchen and another one on the floor next to the changing table for when I'm getting both ready/changed for a feeding

  • We don't have a Bumbo seat but we have 2 bouncy seats and use them all the time.  They have really worked out well for us.  I have the Fisher Price calming vibrations.
