I need carseat help- rear facing convertible in captain seat

So I was trying to install J's new seat into the captain seat of the van today and I am just not doing something right it seems. Our captain seat are kind of tilted back so if I put it at the angle it is supposed to be, the side that rests against the back if the seat is up in the air and obviously not secure.

Is it normal for that space to be there? And is it safe to like roll up a towel or something to fill that space and make it more secure? Thanks!

  • What kind of seat do you have? Some seats have a RF "recline" feature that you need to physically pull down or engage so that the seat isnt tilted so far forward if you put it flat on the seat bottom. But, yes, some seats will have that gap because of the angle of the seat of the car- many car seats allow you to use a rolled towel or a pool noodle to get the right angle. Check the manual to see if it says anything
