I saw my mfm today and we had a growth u/s. He is measuring 33 weeks 5 days and is weighing in at 4 lbs 7 ounces(a month ago he was 3lbs 5 ounces). This all seems very average but he dropped on his weight curve from 40% to 26%. Ugh, I automatically start blaming myself because of the hyperemsis which isn't helpful to anyone! She said she is not worried, at this stage there is still huge room for error in the measurements and that they will check it again in a month.
The second issue I brought up with her is a pain that I have been having for over two weeks in my upper abdomen. I asked my doctor about it last week and he said "oh, you are running out of room." What sort of answer is that? I asked my mfm and she said right away gallbladder once she saw where the pain was. She thought it was weird I was still throwing up and said there is almost always some other explanation this far along. They are going to fax my OB orders on what she wants done and then we are going to go from there to see if it is my gallbladder and if its a stone, sludge, or if it is just irritated. Not that anything can be done this far along but it will still be nice to know what the pain is from exactly. I was told it is pretty common in pregnant women and as tactful as possible she said it was interesting my OB didn't think to at least run some labs.
Re: Slightly crappy appointment
I am so sorry hon.
Try not to worry too much about the baby's drop in weight percentage. Like your doctor said, there is still lots of room for error. If she's not worried, then it's probably okay for now.
That totally sucks about a possible gallbladder issue. I really hope that you start to feel better soon.

well, thank goodness your MFM was listening to your concerns! Even if there's nothing that could be done, I'd like to know what's causing the pain as well.
My ob/gyn practice consists of 5 OBs and a couple of NPs. So far I've only met two of the OBs and one NP and the only one that hasn't made me feel stupid for asking questions is the NP. Sometimes I feel like the OBs have been around so long and have seen so many patients that they're just going through the motions. I get a lot of "oh, that's normal" responses without a lot of explanations.
The only reason I joined this practice was for one particular OB and I have yet to meet her! grrrr.
I'm so sorry!
I'm sure the drop in weight is an error measurement and things are fine.
As for the pain/gall bladder, it sucks that your OB was so obtuse, but I'm glad the MFM was on top of it and I hope you can get some relief soon!
I agree that as long as the doc isn't worried, try not to as well. I hope they figure out what's going with your gall bladder as well.
ugh, i want to punch your OB! how stupid to just say that you're running out of room. i hope the tests show that it is just irritation.
as for the growth thing--my baby dropped from 67th percentile to 23rd percentile over the course of a month and i was really freaked out, but then three weeks later he was back at 66th percentile. i think they naturally have little growth spurts, and when you add measurement error to that, fluctuations are really common. i know it's hard not to worry though!
