What obsession could you do without?

Is there anything your kids are obsessed with that you would prefer they didn't?

DD sees a lot of stuff on TV, I wouldn't say she's obsessed but I kind of roll my eyes.. Lelli Kelli, Zhu Zhu pets, that kind of thing.

Movies definitely get old, like Wall E and now Little mermaid.  Wall E actually is really good, but not like 500x :)

DD also wants anything "puppy", so like every puppy stuffed animal we see (and I have outlawed purchasing any more stuffed animals!!).

Also I made the mistake of cutting sandwiches in shapes with cookie cutters.. set a precedent where DD wouldn't eat a sandwich unless it was shaped like an animal.. THAT I could have done without!

I'm sure I could think of more..

  • DD1 is a total stickler for doing SO many things on her own. Even if she's doing them with a lot of help from me, if she doesn't feel like she did a particular thing, then we get a tantrum and lots of "Mama do'd it!" crying.

Examples: opening and closing doors, including the car door (which is 99% me but woe to anybody who opens the door without DD1's hand on it "helping" push it open); snapping her own chest clip in her car seat; pushing the "start" button on our washer, opening/closing her potty, putting on her own shoes, and a bunch of other little things like that. DH did a load of laundry yesterday and she heard the machine start from downstairs and started scolding him for pushing the button when he came down.

I know it's good for her independence, but sometimes I just wish I could get both kids in/out of the car and garage without waiting for DD1 to do her thing. It'd be so much faster!

  • Lily is obsessed with fashion.  She changes her clothes at least ten times a day and is very insistent and what she wants to wear.  I am tempted to lock her closet to cut back on the laundry.  She also always wants to "win" or be first.

  • Crocs!! I'm so over Crocs!

Cheese - He begs for cheese all day long. I think he would live on cheese alone if I let him.

Mario - If I have to watch one more Mario movie I think I might just lose it!

My hair - He wants to touch, pull, smell and even try to eat my hair. I really can't wait until this obsession passes. It's getting better, but still annoying.

Ditto. My DS loves to be independent and enjoys doing lots of "little things" his way.

  • It's a healthy habit but an obsession of DD's nonetheless...flossing.  She has to do it morning and night--EVERY night.  I'm like, "Seriously?  Flossing?"  I bought the "handled" floss that has the Disney princesses on it and that makes it all the more exciting for her.  Could be worse, I guess...looking forward to all the money we'll save at the dentist, though! :)
