Severe Dehydration...ugh!

I had been throwing up every single bite of sip of anything since Thursday when I woke up, and had a horrible migraine that came with. I kept hoping I would feel better when I woke up yesterday morning, but I felt worse and had thrown up all night again, so I went in to see the doctor yesterday afternoon. He sent me right away to OB Triage to be admitted so I could get lots of fluids via IV, but they turned me away because 14 weeks is their cutoff and I was 2 days under (super frustrating but what can you do?). They sent me to the ER, where I had to wait for at least 2 hours before I was admitted to the pediatrics wing.
The nurse started an IV right away, but had trouble because my veins weren't good from being dehydrated. She ended up getting one to take on my other arm and I got 2 liters of fluids. They tested my urine and I was still dehydrated, so I ended up getting another IV, 3 more liters, morphine, zofran, more blood draws and was pretty much knocked out!
We didn't get home until 1am, and I slept hard all night. I am still feeling real groggy and a little out of it, but I am not throwing up and the baby is doing fine, thank goodness!
My doctor is worried it might happen again due to the migraines, but said that once I make it over the 16 week mark, I should start feeling much, much better. So for now, I am counting down to that!

  • I've been there and I'm there right now.  The doc sent me to the ER at the end of July because I literally puked 14 times in one day.  I couldn't even stand I had become so weak.  So I was sent to the ER and I had *8* bags of fluid and had to stay in L&D over night.  I ended up back in the ER a week later and that was when they decided I could either be hospitalized until (a) I can hold fluids down or (b) the baby is born or I could do home health nursing care for fluids.  Because I have a 13 month old, I chose the home nurse care. So I've been doing that and now we have discovered that my kidneys are in trouble so I am on antibotics to help keep them healthy.  I also have a port in my abdomen that pumps a 24 hour drip of Zofran.

Just telling you all this so you don't feel so alone.  I'm currently only 13.5 weeks and hoping and praying to feel better soon.  And hoping you do too!  Let me know if you ever want to complain about horrible morning sickness.
