DH changed his mind on the MN for our son Francis. So I think for the time being, I like Francis McCary (my maiden name) best and will take that one to the hospital as my top pick. I think DH still likes Francis Michael (my deceased dad's name) best.
I'd rather save Michael for potential DS#3. These are the MNs we had on the spread sheet with Michael:
Michael Owen (my dad's favorite name for a grandson)
Michael Bruce (both our dads' names)
Michael Aidan (this was my favorite boy name before SATC stole it and ruined it)
Michael Nathaniel (a family name for both of us)
Michael Patrick
Plus a half dozen family surnames from either side.
I'm not necessarily looking for the best pairing with Michael since I'm only on son #2, but do you think these names would all work enough to use Francis McCary for this son? I don't think I'll regret not using my dad's name for this baby, I'm not ready, plus I'd be using his last name. And if we follow our plan and add our next child through adoption I like the idea of having a family name for that baby.
DS#1 is Theodore Cardiff. So as a sib set I'd have Theo, Francis and Michael.
Re: Still working on my boy name...
Michael Owen
Followed by Michael Bruce
Michael Owen sounds fantastic! It has the best flow of all of them.
Francis McCary sounds great!!

Either I'm misreading this entire post, or everyone else is.
Are you asking if I think Francis McCary is acceptable?
Well of course I couldn't imagine anything else as the first name, since you've mentioned it so much.
But regarding the middle name McCary, It's not my favorite. I do give it more points for being a family name, but it is an obvious last name, which is not my favorite trend. I wonder if you'd like it at all if it wasn't your maiden name? I can say with confidence that my maiden name sounds silly, and while I adore my dad and his dad, and it fits right in with the current trends, I will not be using it in any manner.
HOWEVER, I absolutely agree that you should not use Michael yet. You have some pretty fabulous mn options for Michael, and I would hate to see them go to waste. PLUS I totally get what you said about wanting to use a prominent family name for DS#3, ESPECIALLY if he is adopted. Save it, girl!
Now with that being said, do you have ANY other ideas for mn's for Francis? I can't remember what you had before that your husband nixed. If you frankly state that Michael is not an option for Francis' mn, will your husband perhaps let that name come back? Or what about using one of Michael's potential mn's as Francis' mn. After all, you can only use one with Michael, and as I said, it would be a shame to let some of those go to waste, especially Owen (your dad's favorite name for a grandson).
Francis Owen = I LOVE THIS.
Francis Bruce = Bruce sounds better with Michael
Francis Aidan = So cute! It really goes together and flows correctly. Plus I like Aidan better with Francis than I do with Michael.
Francis Nathaniel = sounds silly/sing-songy
Francis Patrick = Patrick is my favorite mn for Michael.
Hope any or all of that helps you. Also hope I'm reading your post correctly. haha
