Cloth Diapering

How often do you do a load of diapers?

Hi ladies, this is my first post on this board. My husband and I are expecting our first child in December and I would like to cloth diaper our baby.

My main drawback is the cost of laundry since we have pay machines in our building. For those of you who cloth diaper, how many loads of diapers do you find yourself doing each week? (and I guess how many loads of baby clothes do you do as well??)

Thanks :D

Re: How often do you do a load of diapers?

  • I wash 1 load of diapers everyday(because i don't have a large stash) and wash baby clothes with the rest of my laundry.
  • with my current stash i was every other day.  i'd like to build up enough of a stash to wash every 3 days though, just in case i get busy and don't have time/forget to do a load.

as for baby clothes, i prolly do 1 load a week.  we have a seperate laundry basket for DS and i just wash everything when it gets full.

  • I wash diapers every other day. I read its not good to go longer because the ammonia smell will be harder to get out if they sit too long.  I do baby clothes like 2x a week but she is a spitter upper so we go through 4+ outfits a day.

  • I wash diapers every 3 days (I have over 50 in my stash) and store dirty diapers in a breathable bag (old pillowcase) in a hamper.  We have not had any ammonia issues.  I wash baby clothes about twice a week, or whenever her hamper is full... or I am running out of burp cloths!  :)
  • I wash diapers every other day.  I wash LO's laundry only when she wets her crib pads (I have two of them), and they need to be washed, or I need to wash my own clothes b/c her little clothes do not make up a full load.
  • I wash every other day or so- if I wait longer the ammonia smell is pretty bad.  I do a load of kid clothes every other day too (although I have 3 kids- with just one I could easily stretch that out).
  • diapers- every day, or sometimes every other

i mix my clothes with my kids and do a load a day.

  • For newborn we had 30 pfs, 7 covers, 35 wipes and I did diaper laundry every other day.

Now, same amount of diapers and covers and I do diaper laundry every 3-4 days.

Probably one load of baby clothes a week, maybe every other week.  DD has A LOT of clothes.

  • We wash every 4 to 5 days.  I've read not to go longer than 4 days, but 5 has worked fine for us.  Each "load", though, would cost you 3 times - one full rinse cycle (cold), one hot wash, and an extra rinse.  If you did a wet pail (which most people don't do) you might be able to skip the first rinse cycle.  Goodluck!  I think it's great you want to do this despite being in an apartment.
