So the day I found out I was pregnant... I lost my job. I had been terribly nauseous, sick, and well a bit more moody. On a work training I said the wrong thing (which happened to be the truth about the lack of success of a new program- to a guy thinking of starting one.) Well long story short I was let go.
In the midst of feeling sick and emotional I am out of work with no routine and no coworkers. Having nothing much to distract you seems to make the morning sickness worse
I have lived with my amazing boy friend for over a year now. He is preparing to propose. I am in a very good place. We live in Manhattan where the cost of child care would outweigh earnings I could bring in. So... I am prematurely transitioning to housewifery.
I would LOVE to make my own money. BUT... I also want to give our new child the world. My guy makes more than enough money. Once the baby comes I know I will be occupied, but what about his transition phase?
What can I do--coming up on 12 weeks- to prepare, keep occupied, and feel fulfilled? Are any of you stay at home pregos?

I quit my job when I was 14 weeks pregnant w/ DS. It was really hard at first to transition. I had been in the work field for 10+ years and to have all day to myself was very strange. I started doing a lot of "homey things". I baked bread, made jam, subscribed to Martha Stewart. hahahaa. Now I LOVE being a SAHM. I'm really thankful for the transition time I had before DS, I think it may have been more difficult for me to quit working at be a SAHM with the LO already here.
Go to the library, find things you're interested in. This will probably be a wonderful blessing in disguise!
-Ask your boyfriend if there are household responsibilities you could take over now that you have more time.
-Organize storage spaces--they'll become more important when baby stuff comes into the picture!
-Learn to cook and grocery shop on a budget. The cooking board on the Nest is awesome.

Start working on the household budget. Now that I stay at home I'm much more familiar with the finances as I make a lot of the dya to day purchases. It also makes me feel like I can control some of the savings more to balance the guilt I had about not bringing in any money anymore.
I love being at home now. I don't doubt you'll be going stir crazy towards the end of the pregnancy, but you also have transitioned already and will be used to your new roll before being handed another. It will be fine.
Oh, and craft. I love it!
missesru: What does preparing to propose mean?
He has been running a lot of 'errands' on his own. Highly unusual. He had asked what type of ring I prefer. I have had my suspicions that he will propose on our trip to Scotland tomorrow. I do hope I have great news soon. We live together. He is wonderful, but it sure would be nice to be engaged when I tell my side of the family we are pregnant.
I love every idea on here! It is a bit awkward asking about finances, but it would be wonderful to understand more about our budget.
The ideas about volunteering, cooking, cleaning, organizing are great. I WAS feeling very sick and basically sleeping-only exacerbating any feeling of worthlessness. I know it is all first trimester symptoms, because some days I feel better and others I can barely move. I am excited to start back with cooking and cleaning more when I have good days.
I also like working out, but was too stomach sick. I will try again today.
I want to keep positive and remember this is a blessing in disguise. NYC is very career focused, but it will be wonderful to raise my baby
