Pregnant after IF

diet sodas are bad right?

I can't have regular soda because of the sugar.  I gave up caffeine over 9 months ago.  The only soda I have is sprite zero.  However since my bfp I haven't had that either because I think diet soda is bad right, isn't it because of the aspartame? I would like to have one a day, but if they are not recommended I won't.  Just wanted to see what you ladies were told by your OB.

Re: diet sodas are bad right?

  • It's bad for you in the sense that diet soda is bad for you in general.

I stopped drinking all diet soda when I was pregnant, but I did sneak a few.  I think it was something like 1 a month...

  • I only have one sugar substitute that's on my OK list, I think it's Splenda. Because of that, I'd skip the diet soda.

  • They make Diet Coke with Splenda, but you may taste a small difference. Just a thought.

  • lots of doctors say it's okay, but i personally don't trust the stuff. it gives me a headache, which i interpret as a bad sign about whether it's good for me or the baby. i agree with pp that splenda is the best one of you want to do an artificial sweetener.

and with all of this, moderation is key . . . i wouldn't recommend splenda or aspartame as a daily thing, but once a week or so is probably okay.

  • Frankly,. I think artificial sweeteners are poison and should be avoided by everyone.  I jsut think that growing fetuses should not be exposed to food produced in a chem lab.  Just MHO.

  • I drank a Diet Coke with Splenda almost every day.  Occasionally I would have a regular Diet Coke.   Everything was fine.

After 2 rounds of IVF & 2 rounds of FET, we were blessed with identical twin girls!

  • I might do one on occasion but agree with others that I don't trust the artificial stuff.  How about sparkling water with a splash of juice?  How restricted are you on sugars?
  • I used to be a big fan but I stopped when I started stimming in April. My doc said its okay but I have not gone back to having them regularly whatsoever. I had about 3 since I am pg and it tastes yucky to me now.

  • My OB told me in extreme moderation it was okay. The one that you should not have at all is whatever is in Sweet N Low.

But I don't trust it at all, and I don't have any artificial sweeteners. I stick to water (you have to drink a ton of the stuff anyway) and don't eat low sugar foods/yogurt/etc.

I would really talk to your OB about it though. That way you can get some guidelines about how much is "in moderation."
