beta/progesterone ?

morning ladies - for those familiar with getting bloodwork early on, i have a quick question.

I had my first beta last Tuesday (# was 170), second last thursday (hcg went up to 510 and progesterone was 33), then my 3rd (and maybe final) bloodwork done yesterday - hcg was over 8,000 and progesterone was 27.

The nurse said everything looked great when she called and knowing hcg #'s are supposed to double every few days,  I was very happy with the hcg # . My question is - is it normal for progesterone to go down a little / fluctuate during pregnancy as long as it stays above a certain #? I know hcg should always go up but am not sure about the progesterone and forgot to ask .. probably overthinking this.. just curious if anyone knows! thx :)

Re: beta/progesterone ?

  • Totally normal...Mine has gone from 10, 14, 18, 14...I am 6wks 4 days...It pulses throughout the day so it definitely can vary.  I was worried too, but everyone reassured me...(MD's, RN's)

    Good luck~

  • Yes, it is normal for your progesterone level to fluctuate. I asked my OB the same question when my levels went from 20 to 18. My OB said that depending on the time of day your progesterone can be higher or lower, but as long as your level is in the high teens (or higher) you're ok. HTH!
  • normal for it to flucuate.

my first pregnancy, my progesterone at 5dp-iui was 36!   At 16dpo with my BFP it was only 21.   Docs were not concerned about the drop at all.
