1st Trimester

Anyone bleed and still be okay??

So I had a gush of bright red blood today...it was like I started my period. I was so scared. Went in for u/s and dr saw what she needed to at this point....sac and fetal pole. I really hope it was just a fluke and one time thing. I am still bleeding, but it is now getting darker which means old blood which is hopefully a good sign. Anyone bleed like this and still be okay? I am on progesterone supp so I hope that is what is causing this. I have had 2 m/c in the past so this would be nothing new for me :(

Re: Anyone bleed and still be okay??

  • I'm sorry you're going through this. Spotting/bleeding at any point during pregnancy sucks. I would know. Tongue Tied Did your doctor already schedule another u/s for you or say anything about where the bleeding could come from?

    You'll be in my T&Ps.

  • I know that doctors say if you are bleeding through a pad in an hour then that's a problem. Other than that, if it's just a little, I heard that can be normal for some women. Good luck!
  • It's probably a subchronic hematoma.  I had a couple gushes and my ultrasounds were always fine.  It's very scary though

  • It might just be from stress!

I started bleeding a little at 7 weeks and ended up spending 5 hours in the hospital, had 2 ivs, they drew blood from 3 different spots, and had a cathader (sp), and they told me it was from stress and I haven't bled since and the babies fine.

  • I experienced spotting around 7 weeks, then at 8 weeks, then bleeding at nine weeks--more like a little gush than an ongoing bleed.

Roscoe is 15 months now, and everything was fine. I hope your little one is safe and sound and in it for the long haul!

  • I'd like to thank you all for these responses too.  I had a little gush of red blood last night and I go to my first appointment this morning.  I hardly slept at all.  Here's to hoping it's nothing!

Um, no. That rule applys when to your period, not while you are pregnant.

When I found out about my missed miscarriage they said to go straight to the ER if I started bleeding through a pad in an hour. But then again, I had already been told it was over and that there was a risk of hemorrhaging.

I don't agree with the "other than that it's normal for some people." You don't have to bleed profusely for it to be a problem while you're pregnant.

OP- best of luck to you! It's possible it's caused by a SCH, since everything else looked OK on the u/s. Did she make sure your cervix was closed and all that jazz? I would assume so, but you know what they say about people who assume.

  • I am in the same boat right now, just playing the waiting game to see if everything is okay. I wanted to know if it was the suppositories too, but the nurse didn't seem to think so. I hopefully will know something on Monday, if I make it that long. Good luck to us both!
  • I started gushing blood on Monday literally on the way to my first OB appointment. Had severe cramping also. Went to ER was diagnosed with a threatened miscarriage. Ultrasound showed viable baby, heart beat, pole, sak, etc. Told to come back if bleeding got worse/more cramping. It did went back to ER on Tuesday where they sent me to the high risk maternity floor. They did another ultrasound-babies heartbeat was low but everything still viable. Went back in yesterday for follow up - heartbeat back up, bleeding is still present (darker color) much less but still there. It still freaks me out. If you go to your Dr. they should be able to do a pelvic seeing if your cervix is still closed- this comforted me a lot that my cervix was closed even though I had the bleeding. Wishing you the best & hang in there!!!

  • I had really bad cramps and bleeding when I was pregnant with Ella and Luke! It worked out to be nothing! I hope it's nothing for you either! Dark blood is good because it means old blood!

  • hi, it has happened twice to me.  once at 6 weeks at again at 8 weeks.  i'm entering my 9th week on sunday and i pray that it doesn't happen again.  babies' heart beat is strong <we heard> it was amazing. but the bleeding part is terrible.  dr. recommeded that i stay off my feet when possible. good luck to you!

  • I had this happen on Tuesday. Scared me to death. I had just a few spots and then one short gush of bright red blood with mild cramping. Called the doctor and had bloodwork done.. everything looked good! It is nice that you had an exam.. no one examined me and I think it would put my heart at ease! I had brown spotting the next day and nothing yesterday or today. So far everything looks okay! It is nice to know that there are others out there with similar experiences :) T&P for a happy and healthy pregnancy!
