I had my doc's appointment this morning and my doc said normally she is on call every Mondays and Wednesdays! I go to a group practice so I know there's a big chance that my doctor won't be on call when I deliver. Just curious how many of you actually had your primary doctor delivery your baby?

Not me! And I was kinda bummed about it. My primary doctor was on call the day before my induction date and on Sept 11 but DH didn't want 9/11 and she was booked up on 9/8. The silver lining is that we got the 9/9/09 birth date! Also, the Dr that did deliver me was AWESOME and is known for being one of the BEST. I actually know 3 other moms who he delivered also.
I would also add... Since it was an induction, we went in the night before to get started on some meds. Since my regular Dr was on call the night before, she was the one who inserted the Cervidil and it was so nice to see her... Also, she was on-call the Friday and weekend after my Wed delivery, so she checked on me on Fri, 9/11, and over the weekend. I also saw her as I was being discharged and she gave me a heart-to-heart about the baby blues. So I think it worked out just fine, even better than I would have hoped.
As it turns out, the Dr who did deliver Alexa is now not taking my insurance, even tho they are in the same group, and since I'll have a planned c-sec, it looks like my primary will DEF be the one to deliver our 2nd! Yay!

Good point about the nurses. I noticed this when my SIL was in labour that you definitely see them the most with the Dr. checking in from time to time. Then during delivery of course the Dr. is there but the nurses are there constantly.

i think there are 6-7 docs in the practice i go to? after 34 wks they have all their ob patients see a different ob each time for the checkups so you can meet the others on the chance they deliver your baby.
i was lucky in that my water broke the night before my scheduled induction so by morning my ob was on call again and she delivered miss A. i agree that the nurses are super important though. the ob doesn't come in until the very end. my nurse was amazing and we even thought about giving miss A her name as a middle name that said, since my delivery was soooo rough, it really did help that it was my ob encouraging me to push, telling me "you can do it" etc not sure how i would have felt if it was one of the other ob's. in the end it's hard to say how i would have felt b/c that isn't what happened. all i can say is that i was very lucky to have the nurse that i did and that my ob was the one that delivered my baby.

That's a good idea though--I wish they did that for us. I've never even seen my delivery dr (even though they're in the same group) until the day I delivered =P
There are 5 drs in the practice I go to - and from the very beginning, they rotate you through so that you can meet them all, b/c any one of them can be on call when you deliver. The confirmation appt was with my regular dr, but then I didn't have an appt with him again until I was about 34 weeks, b/c I just kept getting days with the other doctors. Which was good, b/c the one who delivered me/ did my c-s was not my regular dr.
Funny story though - I was in labor so long I saw 4 of the 5 drs from the practice while I was there.
oh and the docs in my practice are on a rotating schedule, so you never knew who was on call.
I was really worried about this in the beginning, but since I saw them all at my appts, I felt comfortable with all of them.
Nope, not for me. I go to (and work) at a large university, medical college. There is a group of about 8-9 ob-gyns (most of whom specialize in high risk pregnancy) and although I saw one doctor at my appointments, I knew there was a large chance of not having her for the delivery. It's just whoever is on call that night, basically.
I ended up having an emergency c-section and had someone that I knew from our medical research deliver me. Kinda strange but there is no place else I would have rather been than at the University. I also approved for fellows and residents to attend my delivery if they wanted!
Interesting..It will be great if my primary doctor will deliver my baby but highly unlikely that will happen. Not to mention my OB is also pregnant and due a month after me!! She will be induced 2nd week of Nov (a week shy from her due date).
I also get to meet the other docs in the practice in my succeeding appointments. Hope I'll like them all.
Good point about how having good nurses are very important!
