Do facials "do" anything?

My face is starting to look a little older (lol) and I was thinking about getting a few facials ... maybe once a month if I can afford it.  Are they even worth it?  I mean ... do they actually improve your skin or are they more for relaxation (like a massage).  I was looking at some pricing and the cheapest (obviously) and express facials - about a half hour ... which would be perfect since I am a busy working mom.

Or is it better to just spend the money on products that I can just apply myself?  I am using a bunch of Clinique products right now already.  I need extra help, LOL!

  • In my personal experience, Clinique is not the way to go once you start to get a little older.  Worked great in my teens and erly 20s though!

I love facials.  I had massive break outs after my first 2 but then my skin started to look fab. I wish I had the time to go back to the spa!

  • I miss facials.

I also loved the mary kay skin care system.  not a big fan of clinique... wasn't even when I was 20.

  • Yes, facial will exfoliate your face and make your pores smaller. I don't use Clinique either. I use a lot of MAC, NARS and Lancome (for eyeliner).
  • A facial can exfoliate and moisturize. Everything they do is a variation on those two things and you can do them yourself (although perhaps not as intensely as it's done at the spa). I'm a huge fan of microdermabrasion.
  • My facial lady always says that she only sees me once a month, the rest of the time it's up to me to take care of my skin.  So I'd say yes, they definitely are helpful but if I weren't committed to a routine the rest of the month it might not be worth going every month.  Also, the facial I get is a maintenance facial, so it's not in a huge spa with pools, etc., its the basis.  I use PCA and Dermalogica lines and like them.  And I use a clairsonic, but I don't think that is a must.
