Re: PG>35 Weekly Check-In: 08/19/10

  • Hi ladies!!  I hope you are all doing well.

Things are moving along with me.  Baby is still beating the heck out of my insides which is both reassuring and uncomfortable.  I had another day of some pretty bad lower back pain that had me stiffly hobbling around the house, but again it seemed to go away after a night of rest.  I hope this won't become a recurring theme of these remaining weeks.  I am beyond ready for my maternity leave to begin.  My work has not been overly demanding but to be honest, it is just irritating me that I have to spend any time on it instead of getting ready for this little one.  I think my nesting instinct may be kicking in a little bit because I am suddenly very anxious to work on my baby to-do list. I'm going to take a look at my vacation balance and see if I can spare enough to start my leave a bit early.

This weekend we are throwing a surprise party for my ILs for their 40th anniversary, so that should be a lot of fun.  We have stuff going on pretty much every weekend from now till mid-September so hopefully that will make the time go by quickly.

    Have a great weekend, everyone!!!

  • All is good here. I had my next to last anatomy scan on Monday and baby is growing appropriately. At 34 weeks 1 day, baby measured 5lbs 4oz. I had an OB appt today and the heart rate was good and I got the good news that I only have to go in for 1 more anatomy scan in a month. I was worried I'd have to go in every week which would make for a lot of cab rides. I've given up on subway rides with DS in this heat. Heading out to the in-laws for the weekend which means I should get to sleep in some. Of course, I'm torn. I love the idea of sleep, but nesting is kicking in and it seems like there is still a ton to do at home. Hope everyone is doing well and has a nice weekend!

  • I made it to the first block of names!! I'm getting close!

Last night was horrible. I kept waking up and when I tried to move my butt would cramp and my back would twinge. It was awful.

Saw the OB today and he said that dirty word again - induction. I guess I need to start making nastier faces when he says that so he understands just how distasteful that idea is to me. I'm all passive-agressive like that.

Other than that, doing well, enjoying a little heat break this week by actually going outside to play with DD#1 on her playset for more than 5 minutes. DD#2 is kicking, hiccuping, and punching away. She really likes to stick her little butt out so I keep patting it and saying, "Hello!"

  • Hi Ladies!

I am doing pretty well, sorry I missed the check-in last week. DH's brother was in town for 5 days and then last night I had to make dinner for our good friend who is moving out of town today. I feel like I have been playing hostess for weeks now!

I hear you on the maternity leave thing, I have 3 weeks and 1 day left, I am so anxious to be done here.

The great news is that we have tenants in our rental unit, bad news, they are all cute southern girls. Awesome, there's nothing so great has having thin young cuties running around the place while I waddle after my one-year old.

My GD is really annoying but my numbers look okay except for my morning fasting which usually a few points high. The nurse keeps telling me I can't even have sugar free ice cream anymore. I am beginning to really dislike her.

    Have a great week everyone.

  • My due date is on there(1/25) and we just found out we are having a boy!

  • Yeah, last day of work today. I will be happy that I won't have to ROLL out of bed at 6AM. Hopefully I will have 2 weeks or so to relax before the big day.

Also, the baby's furniture is coming today...yeah....can finally set everything up this weekend.

  • Please add me to the list.  I am "Jen" and due on March 28, 2011.  This is our second.  We have a 14 month old girl.  Feeling hardly any  morning sickness this time.  The nurse said that the old wives tale is that less morning sickness means it's a boy...we shall see!
  • I'm in the final stretch.  I'll be induced in my 39th week if I don't have her before then.  Due to increased risk of stillbirth in women over 40 they won't let me go past my due date.
  • Hi everyone! Had my OB appt + blood work done this week. Passed the 1h glucose but my Hemoglobin is low. Have to start taking iron pills even though my low Hb is probably due to pregnancy and not the lack of iron.

ScoobyM, do they actually give you real maternity leave? We have the standard 2 payed weeks before the due date defined as "disability" plus 6 payed "disability" weeks after the baby is born. Nothing is defined as "maternity", although you can take up to 12 non-payed weeks whithin a year after the baby's birth (defined as "family leave").

LindaCarter, why are they discussing induction now? Do you have any specific reasons for being induced?

  • I thought I had joined the list, but maybe not (hello - pregnancy brain!).  My name is Erin, and I'm due - with a girl! - on 12/20/10.  Feeling great right now and thoroughly enjoying the planning process :-)

  • Thank you very much for adding me to the list :)

I am just trying to get through not being able to eat b/c of nausea.  Today is the first "good" day I've had - no vomiting finally.  I did not want to take any Rx's or over the counter medicines, however I just started taking Zofran (Ondansetron).  I'm also really not jazzed about my "doctor".  They are supposed to be the 'best' where I live and so far, they are not the best.  I have been a patient in the office itself for over 10 years, however I normally saw the nurse practioner, not the MD.  Anyhow, it doesn't make any sense to me, that they wrote my Rx that I take 3x daily for a total of 20 pills.  It is only a 7 day supply and I know from experience that my insurance is going to refuse to fill it since it will not have been thirty days.  They included 4 refills; it just doesn't make sense.  I called the pharmacy and they verified that they filled it correctly.  Ultimately I know I am going to have to change doctors and it scares me that this is supposed to be the best office in town.  They didn't even have a physician see me on my 1st appt. and stated that that is their policy for 1st appointments:  you only see the nurse practitioner.  I'm sorry, but I made my appt. specifically for a doctor (they verified over the phone) and I got there and it was the NP - then they told me it will be up to the doctor to decide if THEY want to have me as a patient.  APparently I live in a really small town.  They are closed on Fridays too.  I have never heard of a doctor's office operating in this manner.  My friend had the same doctor (her dad is actually close friends with the doctor) who told her to not have her baby such-and-such weekend b/c she would be out of town visiting her boyfriend.  Red flags all around :(  I am also high risk - this office wouldn't even agree to "see me" until I got written documentation from my cardiologist & oncologist saying it is safe for me to be pregnant, and yet despite them requiring that of me, they didn't see it necessary to have me be seen my the MD???  I just don't understand and am very confused about this 'bedside manner', or lack of. I'm sorry I am venting so on my 1st post.  I am just scared.  I hope everyone has a good weekend!

Congrats Deanne Shehane on your baby boy news :)

  • Hi ateytelb - The first part of my leave is as you describe;  2 weeks prior to due date and 6 or 8 weeks after delivery based upon type of delivery, all of which are covered in the short term disability that my company offers.  However, they also offer another 6 weeks of what they call parental leave - it is actually available to both mothers and fathers, but I think for the fathers it is only 3 weeks.  That is full paid leave and can be taken all at once (as I plan to do) or you can take that time in any amount throughout the first year after the baby is born.  So assuming I have a vaginal delivery, I'm expecting to take my full 12 weeks of paid leave all together after the baby is born.  Also, those 12 weeks account for my 12 weeks of FMLA job protection.

  • Comfortable, you should find another OB office if you are uncomfortable with the current one. Having 4 physicians in the family (husband, brother, SIL, and FIL) I can tell you that those MD's that are known to be "the best" in the area are often the worst. For instance, they may be too chatty with patients and that's why patients like them, but they could be real bad doctors, and they miss certain things b/c they chat with patients too much. Look for the following in your next prospective OB: 1. MD degree and not DO. 2. American medschool graduate if they grew up in this country (if they went to a medschool let's say in Mexico then they couldn't get into a medschool in this country). 3. Make sure the MD and the staff treat you politely, and you are not waiting for 2 hours. Good luck!

ScoobyM, you have a better company policy then. We only have 6 to 8 payed weeks (also depending on the type of delivery) after the labor. I will have to take some non-payed time after this.
