In my humble opinion, anyone out there in Bumpie Land that is considering the name Maximus as a first name for their son, should equally consider Danger as the middle name!
If anyone thinks I am joking, I'm not. I honestly think someone out there in the world should have the name Maximus Danger.... eventhough I don't necessarily want it to be anyone I know personally.
Please also suggest this to all your friends in real life or on other boards that are considering the name Maximus.
Thank You and You're Welcome!
PS: Let's all make this the definitive Maximus thread!
Post your honest opinions on the name (feel free to include or not include your feelings about Danger as the middle name), along with:
SSA info
Meanings
Historical associations
Links to other websites where the name is discussed
Etc.
That way, when someone asks about Maximus, or "What names can you use for nn Max" we can just post a link to this thread.
OH, and does anyone still have that link to the YouTube video where the girl is talking about bad names and at the very end she says "Maximus"?

I always think of Gluteus Maximus (Butt) first then I'm reminded the NN would be Max and that is my dog.
According to my "Cool Names for Baby" book, I think it has a copyright of 2008, in their list of "cool names" it is number 85 of 100 and number 374 on some other popularity list.
Totally not my style, it sounds too old like ancient Romans or something.
I posted on an earlier Max thread that in addition to Maximilian, Maximus is also a saint's name. (According to my 1940s "Is it a Saint's Name?" booklet.) His feast day is Jan 15.
None of the Max names are my style.
Hahahaha...I love it! I like Maximus, but I don't think think I'd have the guts to use it on a kid...at least for a first name. And someone, somewhere out there has to have used Danger as a middle name. Maybe I should add that to the bingo card.
Okay, so Maximus...
The main character from the Russell Crowe movie, Gladiator, was named Maximus.
Gladiator came out in 2000.
Maximus debuted the SSA charts in 2000 at 850 and has been steadily climbing.
2009 SSA spot: 249
I believe Maximus is popular because it appeals to a few different types of people - those who loved the movie and its very manly character and then those who love the name Max, but are maybe looking for something different than Maximilian or Maxwell.
Max is a popular name in itself:

According to this, Maximus is also the Patron Saint of Babies:

It's has ancient Roman roots:

It has a pretty bad @ss meaning: "greatest"
Downsides...
I think of the muscle, gluteus maximus (aka one of the three butt muscles)

According to the SSA website in 2000 Maximus ranked #850 and in 2009 it ranked at #249.

It does sound too Roman gladiator to me.

I think if you are going to use Maximus then Danger would be an excellent middle name!
I actually really like the name Max, but Maximus is a bit much to live up to.

When I hear "Maximus" I think it sounds like a NN for a penis. Hey, you asked
I'm sure it has to do with the magazine "Maxim" or something, but that's my first thought.
I found the video I mentioned in the original post. I had forgotten it's in the Unofficial Sticky Note.

It's interesting to watch, even if you aren't considering Maximus.
