Yoga question!

Hello! :)

Ive always carried a fairly intermediate, rigorous yoga routine. Involving a bunch of abdominal strengtheners and full backbends.

I tried out a prenatal yoga dvd only to be bored! And sadly no yoga studio is close enough to me to consider joining... (Im not driving into the city just for a class. :P)

So what type of routine do you do? Im still doing regular sun salutations, not really showing enough to make them uncomfortable. A bunch of stretches and hip openers, but compared to prepregnancy I feel like Im slacking. Not in a feel bad about it way. Just I can handle more and I want to do more. :) I do enjoy my yoga! Or maybe are there any yoga dvds you find challenging?

Thanks gals! <3

(I know this is also posted in 1st trimester, I posted before I realised there was a health and excersise section! SOrry for the double post!)

Re: Yoga question!

  • Hi. I don't know how qualified I am to answer your question, because I am not even pregnant yet, just TTC. I have been reading a lot about working out during pregnancy though. And since no one else has responded I will offer my two cents.

There are a lot of poses that you can't do during your pregnancy, especially after 4 months in. I can see where that will get boring if you are used to doing a stronger workout. Maybe supplement your yoga with swimming. That is my plan. There is an indoor swimming pool near my house and I am going to buy a pass and go swimming instead. It's very low impact and works a lot of different muscle groups, not to mention is good cardio. Stay in the shallow end where you can touch though. You don't want to end up with a cramp in the deep end.

     Good luck!

  • You shouldnt be doing any twists that twist your belly and 2nd trimester you shouldnt lay flat on your back. I like these yoga dvds. I find them more challenging as my pregnancy is progressing. I walk, lift weights, and do prenatal yoga at home. my favorite one is the Shiva Rea one. 60 minutes and she has 3 woman in each trimester to follow along with.

    good luck.

Element: Prenatal & Postnatal Yoga- Elena Brower. 30 minutes prenatal yoga practice. (love this one)

Crunch Yoga Mama-Sue Elkind. 40 Minute prenatal yoga practice. (my favorite one)

Prenatal Yoga- Shiva Rea. 60 minute prenatal yoga DVD.(love this one too)

I also do these dvds as well. they arent yoga but they are good prenatal dvds.

Denise Austin: Fit & Firm Pregnancy-20 minute cardio, 20 minute toning. ( a good one)

Summer Sander's Prenatal Workout- Divided into 3 trimesters. Each workout uses the identical format: an extended warm-up, a mix of varied (mostly standing) exercises and a long, soothing stretch. About 40 minutes.

The Perfect Pregnancy Workout with Karybe Steben- 5 minute warm-up, 33 minute workout, 5 minute cool down. no cardio. Just squats, weights, etc.
