34 week growth u/s - almost 2 lb. difference????

I know they're just estimates, but baby A is weighing in at 6 lb, 2 oz and baby B only 4lb, 6 oz. The peri was not concerned, saying that b has always been smaller and that they're both growing at steady rates. She explained that B is simply a little above average and A is a little below average. Has anyone else experienced such a big difference in weights? How did it turn out? They are di/di. Again, I know to take these estimates with a grain of salt and to trust the professionals, but you know how it is as an expectant mother.....

  • Yes, I'm definitely not surprised about baby A's size...DS was 9 lb, 5 oz so I kind of expected bigger babies. Thanks for the link! I suppose I feel better about baby B being 'little!'

  • Ours were about two pounds apart at birth (at 34 12 weeks) but our big baby was 5 pounds 1 oz, so the smaller one was below the curve for fetal weight, which is why we delivered.
  • Ours were discordant the whole time. At our 34-week growth ultrasound, Baby A was measuring 5 1/2 lbs, and Baby B was measuring 4 1/2. A pound apart. When they were born, Baby A (Lucas) was 7 lbs 1 oz, and Baby B (Callum) was 5 lbs.

  • Mine always measured at least a pound and a half different, if not two.  The way my doctor put it is that they are two different babies, they just happen to be in the womb at the same time.  So it's not much different than someone having a singleton who is 9 lbs and then a few years later having one that is 7 lbs.  I thought that was a good point.  I was over 10 lbs at birth and my husband was less than 6 lbs.  So we joked one took after me and one took after him.

At birth, Baby B was 7 lbs 2 oz and Baby A was 5 lbs 12 oz.  At their 4 month appointment, Baby B was 15 lbs 8 oz and Baby A was 13 lbs 5 oz.  So they have kept up their weight difference.

Good job on keeping those big babies in!  :)
