How do you know LO is ready to pottytrain?

I still think DD is a WAYS off from pottytraining. But, I remember hearing of some readiness signs to watch for? What are they?

DD has been doing some things that make me wonder. We have a stool in our bathroom that she has started to sit on whenever she sees one of us on the toilet. A couple weeks ago, she opened the lid of the toilet, climbed on top and basically sat with her diaper in the water. (which scares me because she could have fallen in!)

DD also goes off by herself when she is doing #2, and lately she has learned to take her diaper off. Yesterday at the sitter's house she took her pants and her diaper off and went and peed in a corner. Lovely, I know.

The sitter is in the process of pottytraing her DS, who is a year older than DD. Part of me wonders if she is showing early interest because she sees him on the potty.

Re: How do you know LO is ready to pottytrain?

  • I heard when they start expressing interest in cleaning up after themselves and their diaper is dry after a few hours- especially when they are dry in the morning. I googled it and here's the first thingI found...

You really do know when they are ready. It's like a light coming on...we tried to get DS to be interested for the longest time but as soon as he was interested he was potty trained in a few weeks. He's not had an accident in nearly a month. WOOHOO!
