I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced this-I've seen a lot of Weight Watchers-related postings recently.
I've been married 4 years, and my weight has steadily crept up. I've probably gained almost 20 pounds over 4 years. I'm 135 and 5'5 and still in a healthy weight range, but I feel like nothing I do gets any results...DH and I eat pretty well (we eat out maybe twice a week and have wine with dinner, but don't eat any fast food, drink soda, keep junk food in the house, etc.) I work out at least 45 minutes-1 hour 4 times a week.Maybe TMI but my boobs also grew more than a cup size in that time. I was on a beach vacation with my childhood best friend and DH last month, and my friend was like, "Holy cow, your boobs got huge! Were they always like that!?"
I'm wondering if this is just a hazard of getting older (I'll be 31.)? Has anyone else experienced this?
Seriously, when I got married at 26, I ate out more frequently and drank more than I do now-other than that, nothing has changed!
I am really concerned about gaining tons of weight while pregnant and then never being able to shed it, esp. when I can't seem to lose weight now.
(Side note-I am right now on CD 41 with no AF and 2 BFNs behind me, so I am feeling especially gigantic).
Re: Weight and TTC
I doubt it's age. Have you had your thyroid checked? If you really are eating ok and exercising it could be something else.
I am a healthy weight, but I know any extra jiggle is due to me not exercising enough!

Oh yes. Welcome to your 30s :-)
Do you strength train? I don't and I'm wondering if it would help keep my metabolism in check. Don't laugh, but I just read Master Your Metabolism by Jillian Michaels. (I got it from the library). She had some interesting ideas about what slows down the metabolism and how to fight it. It might be worth checking out!
I actually went to my general phys. a few months ago and had my metabolism checked...it came out as average, and he said not to worry because I am still in a healthy weight range...just recommended planning healthy meals and exercising which I already do religiously.
It's just frustrating because I have always been relatively thin, and I'm carrying a lot for me right now.

I have heard that most people gain weight as they get older simply because their daily routine involves less activity. I have gained a good 30 pounds in the last 5 years and it is mostly because I now have a desk job. Even working out may not bring you to the activity level of 5 years ago, but as long as you are in the healthy range I don't think it is anything to worry about. Just keep eating well and working out and you shouldn't have issues. If it does keep creeping up, I would see a doc to get the thyroid checked.

Your metabolism definitely does start slowing down after 30 and that along with a number of other factors of age can make it harder to lose weight as you get older. Which also means you can eat the same amount as you used to and actually gain weight. Definitely recommend adding in some weight training 2-3 times per week. The phrase "muscle burns fat" is totally true- the more muscle mass you have, the more calories your body will burn in your own natural metabolism. One other thing to try is one of the food tracking sites (fatsecret, livestrong, etc). Even when eating "healthy" an extra 300 calories per day in food can easily counteract the cardio you did that morning and you break even and it's pretty easy to do.
I come from a nutrition background, but unfortunately, I'm also the one that does the weekly weigh in posts on Monday mornings because I'm not where I'd like to be. Just because I know what to do, doesn't mean I always do it
Feel free to check in with us there if you want some extra accountability. I'd also suggest taking measurements because as you add in some strenght training, you may see more immediate movement in the measurements than on the scale. Good luck!
