Hand numbness starting at 36wks?

I was just curious if anyone is experiencing server hand numbness/swelling in the last few weeks of pregnancy. I have been totally fine up in till the last 2 weeks and my hands are sooo numb and sore.

Re: Hand numbness starting at 36wks?

  • I am only 32 weeks...but started with the numbness, swelling, and lack of use about 3 weeks ago. I talked to my doctor about it yesterday and it is Carpal Tunnel. She said it happens in pregnancy and in most cases it goes away after giving birth.

She said that a brace to wear at nighttime might be beneficial.

  • Ditto the above.

My numbness started about 3 weeks ago, but only got painful last week.  I wear a brace at night, but I'm convinced it makes it hurt worse.  Almost like the fact that it is immobilized makes it more sore in the morning.  I still wear it though.  I'm about to start wearing it during the day since I do a lot of work on the computer.

  • My carpal tunnel kicked in pretty early, around 23 weeks.  I wear a brace at night and make sure to get plenty of fluids before bed to reduce swelling as much as possible.  It's annoying to wake up to pee 3-4x/night, but worth it to prevent the shooting pains through my wrists and forearms.

  • when i was pregnant with DD, my right thumb and index fingers went completely numb around 37 weeks and stayed that way for a while even after delivery.  my midwife told me it was completely normal.
  • I've had carpal tunnel since around 12 weeks, which is odd but no unheard of. Wearing the brace on both wrists to bed has helped a lot during the day. OB said it should go away 2-6 weeks after birth. Lately it has gotten worse in my left hand, but am hoping this is the worst it will be.

I've already started having swelling and numbness, I notice it most in the evening. My ankles are so big by the time I get home from work that I have indents from my socks for an hour. Last night I tried to pick up a pen to write something and couldn't grasp it properly because my fingers were so fat, and my hands fall asleep every time I sleep. I'm kind of nervous about my doctors appointment tomorrow for this reason.
  • I live in FL and in the mornings when I walk it feels like my hands get SUPER dry and they start to hurt. As soon as I get back in the AC, they are fine. Who knows lol!
