Nanny (who gave 1 month notice) is having her bday this month

Ordinarily, we would have given her a cash bonus for her bday (that's what we've done for holidays, bdays, etc w/ prior nannies). But, she gave us one month's notice last week - and I'm still sad about it. I feel like we should do something for her bday, but we're not inclined to spend a lot of money since she is leaving anyway.

She is moving, so maybe a giftcard to Target or a home store? Movie gift card?

Other, non gift card ideas?

How much money would you spend?

  • I'd spend what you normally spend, since she gave you an entire month's notice and there wasn't an issue on your part that she's being fired for. No sense in "penalizing" her b/c she's moving.

That being said, is she moving into a new house or apartment? I'd go with Target, since she can get decorating stuff and home improvement stuff. Just make sure there's a Target near where she's moving b/c their shipping prices are outrageous!

This I would still keep it to your norm!  Maybe even Walmart, they do Site to Store shipping and its FREE!
  • Not knowing how long she's been with you, I would do at least a $200 gc to Target or BB&B.
  • So, I found these beautiful coffee/tea cups at Anthropologie (she loves coffee and tea) - I'm going to wrap them up w/ a card in tribute to the many tea parties she's had w/ DD. The card will have either cash or a gift card in it. She's moving to a fairly rural part of Sonoma, so I'm not sure about the big box store gift card after all. Money - though I didn't want to do that originally - will likely by more practical/needed.
The cups were $40 total. I'll probably put around $100-$150 in the card. She's only been w/ us 5 mos.
