What do you think of Dania for a girl?

DD is Sophia. I like Dania as a sibling name. (Don-ya). What do you think?

Re: What do you think of Dania for a girl?

  • It's ok. I think you will have to explain the pronunciation to people ? my first guesses were duh-NEE-uh and duh-NYE-uh. I think people would pronounce it DON-ya if you spelled it Danya, but that isn't as pretty as Dania.

Have you considered Daria or Daniela?

  • I live close to Dania Beach and it's pronounced Dane-ya so I wouldn't have pronounced it they way you are going for. It's too similar to the place for me so I wouldn't use it. I'd prefer just Dana to Dania though.
  • I do not get that pronounciation from Dania, I say Dan-ee-a in my head.  I have a co-worker named Danya (dan-ya) so based on that I would say spell it Donya if you wanted it pronouced Don-ya.  But, since you are asking for opinions on the name, I do not like it, especially next to such a pretty and classice name like Sophia.

  • I think it's kinda cute. Is it Italian? Then it makes sense w/ Sophia. I do agree w/ pp about mispronunciation. You might be explaining it a lot.

  • I know a Dania and I think it's a lovely name on her! :) I think Dania and Sophia work well as sibling names. :)

(I had no trouble pronouncing this name the way you did.)

  • I had no idea how to pronounce that until I read your post. I would also guess Dan-ee-ah. Either way, I'm not a fan. Sophia is such a beautiful name and Dania is rather, ugly, for lack of a better word. Sorry.

Either way i do not like it.

I also live near Dania Beach, and I have a friend named Dania, and when she introduces herself she says "HI, my name is Dania, like the city" lol
