My company has a $5,000 remimbursement towards adoption expenses and I THINK 4 weeks paid time off (sure hoping that's true). DH's company doesn't have any adoption benefits. So I went on-line and ordered a bunch of information folders & CD's from The Dave Thomas Foundation and DH took them in and gave them to HR. Just curiuos if anyone ever had any luck or changed the benefits at a company by bringing this to a companies attention? I've heard people say that the reason some companies have any benefits is because someone brought it to their attention and asked. I sure hope they give him something when the time comes! As we all know, every penny helps!

Re: Adoption benefits (& Dave Thomas Foundation)
Yes! We didn't, but a group of adoptive families approached HR at DH's company and lobbied for an increasing in their adoption reimbursement program. It worked great. Their reimbursement went from $2500 to $10K. No time off, but we'll take the reimbursement, TYVM.
My company already has a decent reimbursement program, and our maternity leave policy is the same whether you give birth or adopt (score!)
Nice work! Way to be proactive.
That is awesome!
I wish DH's company would get with the program. He has asked a few times about it. He doesn't even get any paternity leave. And, if i worked there? Nada, zip, zilcho.
I work for myself, so i can take the time off, it is the money back that would be swell.
I wrote a letter when I was employed at a large insurance company explaining why they should offer a better program for adoptive parents. I received a very nice letter back but they basically said they would not do anything about changing it and if they did it would take years for them to. At least they replied, I wasn't expecting anything back at all really.
Thats awesome Dr. L! I love hearing when people push for change and are able to accomplish great things!
