And it went soooo much better than last time! He didn't give me some lame-ass reason like she was just holding it in. (Which I understand is a common thing, but when you have GI issues that run in the family and they didn't do any kind of tests to eliminate anything more serious it gets kinda frustrating). The doctor agree that she requires way too many meds to be able to go poopy. So, we're trying something else...eliminating the Miralax (just one of the meds she takes) and replacing it with benefiber. If that works, than it just means she has fiber issues, which is easy to fix. She also got blood work done to check for celiac disease. If the benefiber doesn't work and the blood work comes back negative, she will have to get a biopsy to test for Hirschbrung's Disease, which can only be fixed with an operation. We're praying that the benefiber works for her so we won't even have to think about everything else. But we will try the benefiber for a week. And then go from there.
Anyway, I'm so proud of her. She did so good!! Mommy on the other hand...well...I probably was crying more than her! It was rough.
Re: Had a followup appt at GI Specialist

Bring on the poop!!!! Yay for some new methods and I hope you get some answers soon!
Poor baby!!! Good for you for being proactive in Abigail's care and getting her to a GI specialist! I hope the benefiber works!!
Ps. I love your new siggy pic!!
I'm glad the Dr was more receptive this time and yall can get to the bottom of this. Hopefully the benefiber will be the magic poop inducer!
And Abigail in her little leotard is the cutest thing! Love it!
Amanda, I've been meaning to page you b/c we have finally figured out Ashlyn's isses with this same thing. She had a round of antibiotics for an ear infection that gave her diarrhea and that apparently taught her not to hold it, BUT we also introduced the PediaLax fiber gummies. She is completely off the Miralax now and it's AMAZING. I quit giving her the Miralax while she was on the anitbiotics (for obvious reasons) and then started with the fiber gummies when the meds where over. We have only had to give her Miralax ONCE in the past month, and it was just a sprinkle. The fiber gummy jar says the "recommeded usage" is 3 gummies per day, but I've given her up to 5 since it's just fiber and the pedi had told us that we couldn't give her too much of it. She now takes 3-4 of them a day and poops once or twice a day without straining or making a big production over it. She does hold it when we're someplace new, but she goes as soon as we get home.
So, you might want to give the gummies a shot in place of the benefiber (b/c we tried that, too, while we were on the Miralax) since it's alot easier to get a gummy in her than to get the powder in her.
I hate that you are all going through this. Prayers that the benefiber works.
so glad you finally got some answers in what direction you needed to take and not that she was holding it in.
Another good fiber food that I give Nate are these muffin tops. They are at Publix in the breakfast freezer area. What a great excuse to give her chocolate in the morning right? But there are other flavors to choose from. Easy fun way to get the fiber in her.
