Ridiculous Confession Re: Crazy paranoia. lol

Okay--- so, I said last week that we are adopting a kitten. He is 8 weeks old this week. My brother is fostering him so he let us keep him for the weekend until tonight (so sad to have to give him back!). Anyway, he was a stray found all alone at 5 weeks old in the city. H changed his litter all weekend but I am freaking out because he put his paws on my mouth when we were playing. I'm sure it's fine but now I am all worried about toxoplasmosis. I have read all about it and know my risks are crazy low... but now I'm all worried.I have an appointment tomorrow with my mw so I called to ask them to test me for immunity but I'll also ask her about it while I am there. I doubt anything would happen to my LO in 3 days...

Everyone's been freaking out about me changing our cat's litter box since my husband has deployed. But my doctor actually made a really good point, that cats get toxoplasmosis from killing rodents and things like that, and seeing as how our 8 year old indoor cat won't even kill a fly, I probably have nothing to worry about. I'm still careful though - but I'm guessing that your kitten wasn't out killing a bunch of animals either at 5 weeks old.

Supposedly, you should still be careful, wear glove and a mask and wash your hands. I agree though it's probably fine. People are such freaks (says the girl worried about kitten paws!)

I think you are right that he probably wasn't out killing anything at 5 weeks old and if he got it from his mom he would already not be contageous. Plus, H was having trouble with the poo so he just would get all new litter every time the cat went. HAHAHA Should be interesting.... "Hmm... Honey this month we spent $485 on cat litter, I think it's time you start scooping instead of dumping it all out."

Hahahaha! You definitely need to video tape him when he changes a poopy diaper for the first time!

Just have the kitten tested when you do his first vet visit. It's cheap. Then you won't have to worry. I second World's Best Cat Litter. It's awesome. You can get a free bag with a mail in rebate. Just google it.

I understand the worry.  I internally worry about crazy stuff every now and again.  I have two cats at home that I cuddle all of the time and one of them loves to put his paws on my face while I am sleeping.  I don't have toxoplasmosis.  I am sure you are fine and that your testing will come back fine at the Drs.

Yea that happened to me... ick.

Usually the box is unreachable by the dogs but one time it wasn't b/c H was cleaning it and our puppy Liam snuck in there and then licked me...blech

But like pp I have two indoor 8 yo cats so I am not worried... but it was gross!

lol.. I'm sure you'll be just fine..   I had to babysit my moms kittens this weekend and they're all still being bottle fed.. so lots of contact with them.. and I'm not worried.
