Those who have the Shark Steam Mop...

We just put down wood laminate floors.  They are the click together kind, no glue, except around the quarter rounds that go around the side of the floor.  I have a shark steam mop that I use on my vinyl floors all the time, but can I use it on my new floors?  The guy who laid them said i can, but then my mom was like NO DONT!  she said it will warp them.  WTF?!  if u cant use it, what DO you use??

Re: Those who have the Shark Steam Mop...

  • Not a professional opinion here but I would think a steam mop would be better than a wet mop that could allow water to get down in the floor?!  If you can't use steam mop or wet mop then I would say you will have to use a wet swifter?!

  • Again not a professional but my MIL got one about a month ago and has been using it on the click together because it says safe on all wood floor. Not problems thus far and I agree with pp much better than a wet mop because the steam mop barely makes the floor wet.

My mom and gma just put down wood laminate in their family room and use a Steam mop.  It doesnt harm theirs and they have used it for 6mnths +.
I agree that its better than getting water from a regular mop on it.  The steam dries super fast.
  • We have click together laminate, nut they are the super thick kind, like real hardwood. Our installer told us to NOT use a steam mop, since it's the glue holding the layers on the laminate together that's the issue. (not the water seepage). Now that i've had them for a few years, i've found it's so hard to keep clean and streak free, I DO plan on getting a steam mop. I will do quick long strokes, but I think the clean it steam will provide will be so great! We have had 1 issue with leakage under. This time last year, right after we brought ds home from the hospital, I noticed an overwhelming mold smell. We found that the dog bowl was constantly being kicked over by our toddler and seeped under the planks. Blond, since we had no idea what it was, or where, dh took a skill saw and cut into our beautiful floor....to find the pieces totally expanded and moldy. Luckily we had a few extra planks and he was able to fix it, without it looking to bad. We k ow where there are now nail wholes, bit other than that, it looks good. So beware of standing water!

  • I have laminte wood floors and we were told not to use the steam mop.  I hate them for that reason alone.  It is such a pain to clean them.  I think the swiffer wetjet leaves them very streaky (ours are dark wood), and a mop is a PITA.  I will never do laminate again.
