My entirely NPR and non-Emjay/HIPPA-related question

Help me, fellow nesties/bumpies!  I need an oh-so-fabulous gift idea.

In a few weeks, I'm going to be leaving the basement, because a married couple who are both good friends of mine are hosting a party for my birthday at their fabulous house, because actually I do have friends IRL.  They are not super-rich but they do have a McMansion and they have plenty of nice things.  I need a gift in the $100 to $200 range.  Since I don't get out of the basement much, I need ideas.

Thanks!

While you all rack your brains and provide the perfect solutions, I will go read all the dramz from earlier.....

  • What about some really awesome wine or booze of some kind?  I love gifts like that.

    Because I'm a lush.

YES!  Awesome wine would be perfect... but specifically what?  I'm too lazy to use my exceptional google skills so I thought for once I'd just be a lazy@ss like is so common around here and ask you all just to spoon-feed the info to me, like is so popular on this board! :-)

Chardonnay is the preference of the wife

  • Do you have an awesome wine store by your basement?  We haven't found one here yet, but by our old house, there was this awesome old guy who owned a wine shop and you could go in and tell him what you wanted, what you wanted to spend and he'd suggest a few things.

It was fantastic, because despite a really good wine appreciation class in college, I'm pretty fail at that.

the other thing is you could check into restaurants near you that might do wine tasting nights - those are super fun.  There's a place in Indy that is called the corner wine bar and they have these themed nights you can make reservations for (like a specific type of wine or winery) and they serve a tasting menu and a bunch of different wines.  Everyone I know who has gone raves about how fun it is -  most are big wine-os.  I bet places near your basement have something like that, too.

Super tips. I'll peer out of the basement and look around a bit

  • If there's one thing I'm good at, it's shopping and knowing where to spend money.

It might be my only talent.

  • Maybe this is a lame suggestions, but what about a wine of the month type club. I don't think you always have to do a full year, but you could do 6 months or so of something like that. Then they can get a few new bottles every months to try.

It's a decent suggestion, but my fear is that instead of buying one or two super bottles, I'll end up spending the same for fewer mediocre bottles...
